After a record unbeaten run of 37 consecutive games, Italy finally lose. Spain have knocked them out in the Nations League semifinal in Milano yesterday thanks to Ferran Torres' first half brace and some help from Bonucci who got sent off just before the break. We await France or Belgium in the final.

Special mention to our La Masia product Gavi. At just 17 years and a couple of months old, he became the youngest player ever to play for the seniors Spanish national team, breaking a record from all the way back in 1936. And he did it by starting this game, and playing an excellent one, against the reigning European champions who previously didn't lose in three years.

Best of luck, kid.

Newcashle United like. Howay.

Apparently they have £200 Million to spend on transfers. Be interesting to see how they go about it. Obviously Mbappe and Haaland won’t happen, but I’m curious to see what level of quality they’ll be able to attract.

Is it really that much worse than P$G, City or Chelsea? Is it even different in any material way shape or form? That is the question.

I think the minute we allowed entire nation states to back football clubs most should have realized the gig was up. Of course, the first and most fatal blow was Abramovich. For me he is the original, true villain and personifies everything wrong with the modern game. What’s that saying about inviting a vampire inside?

Then again, even though the Saudis execute journalists on a biweekly basis and have the progressive social views of someone from 750 AD…

Mike Ashley might still be worse.

lol 750 AD. That reminds me of the Joe Louis barbershop scene in Coming to America.

I take it the Newcastle women team has been abolished. I'm still annoyed at WWF going there when women were not allowed to compete. They can now, I think.

Can still remember people thinking the Andy Cole transfer wrecked the transfer market. If they only knew.

In other news. Fire at Andorra's stadium.

There was Berlusconi before Abramovich

Klose is awesome.

In the measured opinions of you dudes, what made him such a force?

Seems to have remarkable spatial awareness—and a preternatural head-to-ball connection.

I'm hearing that Newcastle are interested in signing Anthony Martial. It does feel like only a matter of time before they get a new manager in.

Right place, right time, specialist. I don't believe he was known for his technical skills. Good ol' fashioned poacher. A bit like what Cristiano Ronaldo is today.

I'm looking through his club record now. I hear people say it is nothing special, but even if it is ''nothing special'', it's still very good. His Lazio spell at the end of his career stands out.

Of course, it's the World Cup where he really made his mark. I know plenty of people see the World Cup as the pinnacle. I probably still do, even if it doesn't feel as special as it did back when I was younger. Diana Ross missing the penalty during the opening ceremony, Pavarotti's iconic song for Italy 1990 etc. The Jennifer Lopez concert just didn't have that same magic. :p

Interesting to see if Klose's World Cup record will be touched. Hard to see, but then you feel that way about many records and they eventually get defeated.

Thanks a million for this.

I sort of figured as much (albeit having only seen him in big int'l matches). Oh well.

Ronaldo can get bent. Messi's still my dude. Guess a Klose conjures a bit of nostalgia or something.

So Scotland can make the World Cup play-offs with victory at Moldova, who have 1 point from 8 games, 1 competitive win in the last 3 years, and currently sit at no. 180 in the Fifa rankings, their all-time worst placing.

I wonder what happens next.

Terrifying prospect but hopefully we 1-0 it

I think we'll be fine. Recently more lucky breaks have been going for us. In previous campaigns the goal last night hits Dykes and goes wide or ends up going in off his hand or something. The play-offs will be tough though.

I know it is football and like the Mandalorians - ''This is the way.'' We've already had Brendan Rodgers come out and say he is not interested in Newcastle. haha Yeah, not like he really can say anything else, even if I do believe him. Steve Bruce is still waiting on them to cut through their red tape and give him the payoff.

Interesting to see who they do get, just to see where they are starting this thing from. As has been said, many clubs have been bought and sold, so it's not an era where Newcastle is the only club spending big.

Northern Ireland's world cup qualification hopes now look about 0%. Around the same as when the qualification kicked off.

If they really want to show they mean business, activate the 1 billion release clause for Pedri whenever it is active. Spend it wisely now, Barca. :p

Gets his one game to show what Bruceball is all about. New 10 year contract awarded afterwards. 10 billion release clause.

Steve Bruce caught talking to Harry Kane about ''something.'' Nah, I made that up. Newcastle can spend huge and you can thank Mike Ashley. Financial fair play and all that. They were making a profit so can spend more.

Paul Merson was doing his thing. ''Newcastle need 17 players.''

De Gea could only deny for so long. Leicester in front. You knew it was coming.

Rashford is a baller.

Wow, I don't know what to say. Leicester in front right from kick off.

Maguire is looking like Titus Bramble out there.

Could get ugly next weekend against Liverpool with the form Salah is in.

Only ones who did well, the academy boys. Greenwood and Rashford.

And of course my man Matic.

Now where to start?

Attitude - lazy, passive. Look no further than Maguire, who just stood there waiting for the ball to come to him and looked around, completely ignoring the opponent who was about to intercept. Those times he did get hold of the ball, he sent it out for a Leicester throw in.

Reminder, for that scaredy cat we paid a record fee for a defender. And gave him the armband as a nice bonus.

Apart from laziness, recklessness. Pogba who would rather rape the ball for hours and release it in the last possible moment or lose it, rather than make a logical decision, made a dozen tiny fouls. And he was left shocked why any of them were given.

For that treat we paid a former world record free, after losing him for free the first time and about to do the same now, paying whatever astronomical wages in these five years in the process, waiting for those consistent performances which, after initial transfer fee pressure, Mourinho's tactics, injuries and everything else there is, are definitely just around the corner now.

And last but not least. Instead of shooting, Bruno (the BEST thing that's happened to this club in nearly a decade) decides to cross instead so the useless washed up pretty boy would have a chance to stats pad. If anything the amount of superstar ego in this squad was very small before, and now they all have to adapt to his needs. "The best", HAHAHA. Do I dare even ask how much he was paid this week for being a headless chicken who missed the entire ball on multiple occasions today?

After a long time, it's finally official now. 2006ish-2021 was overall a fun ride. But enough is enough. I QUIT!

Okay, see you all in midweek. Atalanta are going down!

Not sure why Gary Neville was slating Sarr and Chalobah. Brentford have been a revelation at home and when they went for it in the last 20 minutes? It was always going to require an all hands on deck, scrappy performance full of heart to counter it.

One of them was a young kid making his first ever appearance in the Premier League, the other is a kid with a handful of games under his belt. They were both brilliant.

Any criticism should be reserved for the midfield/attack who couldn't get hold of the ball and calm things down a bit, but even then, you have to credit Brentford for their all out aggressive approach that made it a real challenge.

I was really pleased with the performance overall. Werner was his brilliant and frustrating self, but Lukaku is a real concern. I said when he arrived that he was a better version of Heskey, nothing more. Unfortunately, his performance have backed that up so far. Souness and co saying he was a sure thing, morphed into a top striker in Italy, great signing etc.. They were egregious comments at the time, and looking even more wide of the mark now.
