Oh lawd, I thought I'd hit a fantasy football goldmine today with Lescott and Young scoring two each before I realised I'd replaced Lescott with Wheater.

Ouch! Especially as Wheater got sent off yesterday lol ;)

I like Young, I think he has the potential to become one of the best in the world in the coming years.. he creates so many chances and has a good eye for goal aswell as having the ability to beat defenders with his blistering pace.

As a Chelsea fan a wide player is a real priority at the moment (having been linked with Robinho, Ribery etc..) but I think Young could be even better than them both. He's so happy at Villa and we would never get him but he's so exciting.

I think he'll stay at Villa for a while. If he moves, it'll be abroad rather than another club in England. He's Villa through and through. Villa are a well run, successful club and are on their way up. If you want to learn how to run a mid-table club and take them up a good deal, look at Villa. Young is indeed a great talent and it'd be a shame if that talent was wasted on the benches at a bigger club.

Yeah Randy Lerner is a brilliant chairman, just what's needed at a time when people question foreign ownership of English teams.

As for Young benchwarming at the top teams, i'm not so sure! At Manchester United he would be.. but I rate him higher than Kalou and Malouda at Chelsea, Riera, Pennant and Kuyt who plays wide for Liverpool.. and Walcott, Nasri, Denilson, Eboue etc.. at Arsenal.

But yeah, having said all that I can't see him moving anywhere for quite a while :)

Ok this is off-topic although it has something to do with football lol but basically I bought Football manager 09 and I installed it and everything and then when I double-click to launch the game it comes up with this message saying Windows had to close the game because of an error saying "fm.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
And it says the problem is this:
"Reporting Details:
This error report includes: information regarding the condition of fm.exe when the problem occured; the operating system version & computer hardware in use; your Digital Product ID, which could be used to identify your license; and the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your computer"
WTF do I do? :evil::evil::evil:

It's something to do with Steam, methinks.

I don't know because I haven't got FM09 yet, but there should be something about it on the SI website.

Hey, what exactly, is Football Manager? I've heard good things about it, but I've never exactly got to play it. My English friend at University is absolutely mad about it, he says it's the best thing to happen to this world since sliced bread. What is it like? Is there multiplayer so we could set up a TTW league or something like that? And most importantly, is it available in the States?

It's the best management sim out there. I haven't got it yet as I fear my uni work would be completely ignored in an instant.

Yeah there's an online feature.

Not sure if it's out in the States yet, but the previous games have been called Worldwide Soccer Manager 2008 etc.

I've bolded my comments next to each of the players you mentioned.

Do we have a Galacticos 2.0 on our hands here?

Hart is good, City (and England) would be better off if he stayed put and developed. England has a shortage (or lack thereof) of decent goalkeepers so if both parties wanted improvement I suggest he stay put. If you really wanted a good keeper, you can pick up Marcus Hanneman (a fellow yank!) from Reading on the cheap, and he's class.

Well Mahmadou is out for the season so he's ruled out and really we just need a half decent holding midfielder so Kompany can go to his preferred position at centre half back. Lassana is a decent choice and with Michael Johnson's injury problems for us and his lack of fitness at the moment Diarra isn't a bad choice until the summer.

I think you're slightly underating Aguero a bit. He's young and probably would take a bit of time to adjust to the Premier League but he's class and has great skill, a bit like a younger Robinho from what I've seen so I think he'd be a very good addition. A midfield with Aguero, Robinho, Ireland, SWP, and Diarra sounds good to me. I would even prefer him to Ribery but that's just my opinion.

Bridge doesn't really suck, he's one of England's best developing young talents and linked with a ton of clubs. Unfortunately as Fena said he's happy sitting behind Ashley Cole on the bench waiting for first team for Chelsea so he may not come anyway.

As for Hart I don't really think we're in the market for a keeper besides (realistically) Buffon, and that's just because he's the best in the world and could help Hart develop even more and potentially reach that level someday (By World Cup he'll be England's number 1 I'm almost sure of that). Great shot stopper and isn't a calamity like James, Robinson, etc. His only problem right now are crosses he isn't as commanding as he should be at that size but he's learning, nice string of games he's gone on recently as well in fantastic form.

I'm surprised nobody's been linked with Akinfeev as far as I know, or Oscar Ustari for that matter.

Another decent goalkeeper is Mauricio Caranta, but he's a bit old these days.

Yeah, that took me by surprise too. Akinfeev was quite good at Euro2008 and wants out of whereever he is rightnow, I think it's Spartak Moscow, but I think I'm wrong. At one point he was linked with City, or some team in Spain (forget which) or Bayern Munich. Wouldn't surprise me if he moved to a big club; he's class, that one.

What I'm really surprised about today is Schuster getting sacked, though. He did basically all he could do for them in the span of one season, though, save for the Champions league.

Which is why they needed to sack him? Utter nonsense. Madrid are a proud, great club but with Mijatovic and Calderon calling the shots right now the club is nothing but a circus and won't improve on any fronts until those two are not with the club. I have a feeling that Barcelona is going to absolutely murder them this weekend. Barca are on form and absolutely slaughtered Valencia last weekend and they aren't exactly slumping. Madrid are in awful form at the moment and have had no luck with injuries as well. Hopefully Barcelona take Real Madrid out to the slaughterhouse this weekend and straight up crush them. Anyone want to bet against my prediction?

Ross, what do you think about this? Will the guy do more at Madrid than he did at Spurs?

Correct! ;)

....I can see Schuster going though, deffinitley. As for who would replace him.. Juande Ramos! He is still very highly regarded in Spain.....

As for how it will go, well who knows with Madrid! Will be interesting to see if his time at Tottenham has knocked his confidence or not.

Well, firstly, I always stuck up for him earlier this season when Spurs were totally abysmal, but since Harry Redknapp has come in and got a heap load of points with the same players, I've revised my attitude a bit. And secondly, to answer your question, all things considered including how full on mad an environment Real Madrid is, I can't see him being wildly successful, no.

We did it again!!!!

What a great night. This is the best a Danish team has ever done in champions league. Amazing fight from the boys.
It's clear that Man United can play so much faster than us, but we believed that we could do something at old trafford. What's up with Aalborg boys outsinging united fans at their home ground?? All I could hear was AaB fans singing throughout the match. Is it illigal to sing in England, or are the ticket prices just so high that only rich people can afford to see the games?

Anyways, this is the best season ever for AaB. We won the championship this summer, and even though we got a tough start this season, we are undefeated in the last 12 games.
I don't need any fancy overpaid team to fill my football needs. I can just walk around the block a follow my local team.
Thanks boys!

Yeah, I watched a bit of the match. Absolutely AWFUL referring. Today's refing job = epic fail. Chelsea continue to drop points, but it's not their fault. The refs have to be less biased. And now, more than ever, it's evident that some cash needs to be spent in January. Unfortunately, they've got Peter Kenyon managing the purse strings, and safeguarding Roman's checkbook. First of all, It wasn't a handball, he used the top of his shoulder to control the ball. Second of all, blame it all on the ref? no chance... Chelsea had plenty of chances to score. Although I do agree it was a penalty (a soft one though)

Why do you sound like Chelsea are in a crisis? Your 1 point off top and have Anelka on 13 goals from 15 matches in the Prem. You don't need to bring in too many new players. If Drogba stays, then your fine I really don't see need for anyone else.

And yes I know all you Chelsea fans will now be attacking me but I would like you to rationally consider what I said and not start getting all lairy and start insulting Arsenal because I'm not insulting Chelsea.

Looked like a dive to me, but what do I know - C. Cole had the chance to win it for West Ham anyway but had a poor strike, in the end you could be lucky to get away with a point there. The bookies probably still tip Chelsea's current squad as the top chance to win the league and having 2-3 good strikers along with the depth in midfield and in the back I don't really see why a lot of money has to be spent for Chelsea.

You could be City and sitting on 18 points from 17 games.

lol what you chatting? Knocking the ball past a defender and having them trip you up is a penalty, simple as.. it's not a "soft one", not something that can go either way, it's a stonewall penalty. You wonder why Chelsea fans aren't happy with the refereeing at the moment when we got an awful decision against Arsenal and were on the wrong end of it again today. What rubs it in is when Man Utd get penalties like they did against Bolton earlier in the year, and Liverpool can score 2 goals only the day before when there was 2 blatantly obvious pushes on Hull defenders. They say it evens out over the course of a season but that's not the case.

And you are wrong in saying Drogba is the answer, because that's not the area we have problems in. We need to buy wide players, as you saw today we are far too narrow and when you have Joe Cole (who likes to play at the top of a diamond), Kalou (a striker who's been forced to play wide) and Malouda (who played as much at left back for Lyon as he did on the wing) .. you can see how desparate Chelsea are for a wide player who can beat people. Scolari thought he had him in Robinho before he was signed under his nose by Manchester City. He knows we are lacking wide players to create width, explain to me how Drogba being back in the team solves our main problem? Infact it actually compounds it as he is up there with nobody to provide crosses for him to make use of his aerial power. Anelka is great as he hangs off the last defender and runs onto through balls form central positions, Drogba works when he is provided from wide areas. Will Malouda give him what he needs? Of course not.

First of all, it was a soft penalty and no matter what you say I won't change my mind ;) As far as I could see he hesitated before going down indicating he could of stayed on his feet. As I said before I agree it was a penalty but it wasn't blatant to me in real time that it was a foul.
Second of all, playing down the middle of the pitch seemed to work fine when you were smashing Middlesborough & Sunderland 5-0. It's just bad form right now. And you can't deny that Anelka is playing off his baps right now.
Another thing I'm not saying Drogba makes it all better, I'm saying with him in the team you have someone to win those headers and take pressure off the rest team. He gives freedom to other players to go and make something. And now that I think about it you don't have an out-and-out winger but people going on about needing to bring in loads of players is a load of (excuse my language) doo-doo. Maybe a couple of wingers but no more than that would be neccessary. And no wonder Abramovic doesn't wanna spend money anymore... he goes and spends loads and your not even top of the table & cuz of people like Malouda & Alex

If he does grow into a player anywhere near as good as Makelele was, 24 Million will be a bargain.

No, Roman likes the football Chelsea play under Big Phil a lot more than the football that they played under Jose. He'll be given a bit more time to work his magic and with that hopefully will come some silverware. I mean, the guy has made it to a Euro Cup final, and has won a World Cup. He knows how to win.

Maybe, but at the moment I doubt he'll get much first team football for them but with Mahmadou's injury I suppose they did need a replacement.

For me? No, I said originally that some of the offers we were putting up were bad and made no sense in the scope of football as a whole. We were willing to give 18 mil to him but City right now are overpricing players who may deserve to be overpriced, such as Villa and possibly Kaka (unlikely right now). Dunno if laughing is so wise as a Chelsea fan but that's fine have your moment :).

M. Diarra hasn't played particularly well for a while, I think there's an opportunity for L. Diarra to really cement himself.

As for Chelsea spending big, that's one thing we don't do! We missed out on Dani Alves two summers ago as we didn't think he was worth £24 Million, this year we missed out of Robinho because we didn't rate him any higher than £28 Million.

When clubs know you have money they try to milk you for all they can, Abramovich walks away when that becomes the case. Will Man City bulk at paying £70 Million for Villa? Probably not and that's dangerous.

At this rate Villa won't be coming unless Valencia are desperate for cash, agree about the danger of clubs trying to squeeze out money from us because of how much we have now, Abramovic has been good with that I suppose. Also, SWP made a good comment when he said that Chelsea built up by buying the not so obvious choices to turn into superstars in the league, such as Drogba. That should be how Hughes and the like look at the signings rather than thinking of paying obscene money for the already top tier players.

However, gutted after today. Two weeks in a row with last second goals against us...18th and boxing day a huge test now with a win needed over Hull. Luckily after the top 5 there aren't a lot of points separating or else we'd be in much more trouble with how City have been playing.

You think Sparky is done, or should City give him time to turn the ship around? I say if you're going to show him the door, do it before January so the new boss has time to buy his own players and not get stuck with a team he doesn't like, or wait until the summer to sack Mark because it'll give the new guy an entire summer to build his new team.

Yeah we focused more on young players who hadn't quite broken through into the world class category, but had big reputations. Some worked out and some didn't (Cech, Robben, Essien, Carvalho, Drogba etc.. worked whilst Kezman, Mutu, Del Horno etc.. did not).

Manchester City seem to want the ready made superstars to enhance the brand, it's not worked out so far and it seems like they could end up with a really unbalanced and strange looking squad if they aren't careful. On the flip side of the coin though, a stronger defence and a goal scorer (Jo isn't cutting it) and they might stumble onto something.

I'm personally a supporter of Hughes, I liked what he did at Blackburn and how we played in the start of the season. Unfortunately there is a lot of dead wood on the team and players underperforming (Richards and Dunne for a start..) as well as a lack of a left back and a shallow bench. He may be an ex rag but still he has the right idea for where to take the club.

As a whole right now though from what I'm seeing it's around 80/20 in the City fanbase in favour of getting rid of Sparky, a lot of them not liking him from the start because of the United thing but still it's mostly overeacting. I'd give him til the summer and the 8th spot in the league the goal. If he doesn't reach that then it'd probably be wise to bring in someone new, as you said it'd be better for the manager to get to build his own team with the money we've got.

"You'll be sacked by the morning" has been ringing through my head all day though since the fans at the West Brom game. Hopefully the Arabs do have support of Hughes because one thing he has done is bring in players who have given 100% every game and been great performers for us (Future Captain Kompany, SWP, Zabaleta after first few poor games,).

Only thing is he must NEVER START DARIUS VASSEL AGAIN. Not Premier League quality, and Pompey can take Benjani back as well..no desire in the lad.

Yep, I think Sparky realises this but the Arabs haven't quite grasped that concept yet.

Stronger defence is a must. Richards has gone off the boil this year and has been beaten in the box for headers both of the last two weeks at the last minute and Dunne, as much as I love him, is revealing that he doesn't have the talent to lead a defence and team that wants to get to at least a consistent European spot, then hopefully challenging the top clubs points wise.

Jo can't play up top by himself, he needs someone to support him since he doesn't have finishing instinct and would rather try to link up play than go for the obvious chances himself. Not a bad thing, but we haven't got the quality up front to allow that to happen. Santa Cruz would be a step in the right direction and hopefully Hughes has his eyes out for some good talent now if he still has his job by then.

Yeah I can't stand them, so many dirty challenges in there but favoured under the home refs oh well. I like Arteta and wouldn't mind semi-wrestler Fellaini on City but still it's not good football to watch unless you enjoy seeing knees and ankles chopped all game.

Spot on with Arteta. I thought for sure he would leave over the summer to a much bigger club, heard that Atletico had swooped in for him but nothing ever came to fruition. Maybe he'll move somewhere bigger in January? He's still quite young I assume and is talented so you think he'll move sometime soon? I mean Everton is a well-run club, they've got some stability, and are on the rise but with their style of football, I don't think they can rise much higher. Would you want him at City?

More draws for Liverpool and Chelsea haha one of you get some distance already! I want you as far away from the rags as possible. Before you know it Villa will be chopping at you soon!

Wouldn't mind Villa doing well, they've got (2) Americans! (and an american owner!)

Well it wasn't a sending off, even Graham Poll had to admit it was only a yellow! If every player who didn't win a bouncing 50/50 tackle got sent off then there would be 5-6 players off every game! I could understand if his foot went over the ball but it was ball height and it even looked like he took a bit of the ball. You know it's a bad decision when you get West Ham fans questioning a Chelsea sending off like they were afterwards.

Since when did people respect Graham Poll's opinion?
