WELCOME TO THE 2011 UNITED STATES OPEN PREDICTION LEAGUE!

Anyone at any time can play, so join in on the fun starting Monday, August 29th!

HOW TO PLAY:
For EVERY match, predict the winner and the number of sets it will take for the winning player to win the match. (EX: [1] N Djokovic (SRB) vs [4] A Murray (GBR) - Murray in 3) If you predict the correct winner but in the wrong number of sets, you'll get THREE POINTS. If you predict both the correct winner and the correct number of sets, you’ll get FIVE POINTS.

Each predictor is also able to pick the winner and runner up of the tournament before the FIRST MATCH. At the conclusion of the tournament, two points will be given to each predictor who predicts a correct FINALIST and an additional three points if the FINALIST finishes in their predicted position of WINNER or RUNNER UP.

You can edit a pick until a particular match starts, however, please always make a new post quoting the original pick. DO NOT EDIT THE ORIGINAL POST.

Additional Rules and Instructions: League FILE & FAQ (HTML) and Current Top Ten, Defending Champions, and Overall Leaders (HTML)

PREDICTION LEAGUE DOUBLES HEAD TO HEAD CONTEST:

In addition to the regular tournament, each participant can pair up with another one and participate in a doubles tournament. There is no additional match picking or work involved. Your regular league scores are combined with your partner's to compete against another team.

The doubles tournament format is similar to the FIFA World Cup. There are round robin rounds where you and your partner compete against doubles teams in your group. The top two or three teams from your group then move on to the knockout rounds. The exact format will depend on the number of doubles teams.

TW PREDICTION LEAGUE TOP TEN

  • Two new columns have been added to overall standings - PTD and EE. PTD stands for points to defend out of max 44 available for the three remaining tournaments (USO - 20, Shanghai - 12, and Bercy - 12) to qualify for the Elite Eight competition.
  • Remember, the 2010 Elite Eight (or Top8 ) points and YEC competition points count towards 2011 qualification. The EE column represents the points for this year (RACE) plus points from last year's YEC and Top8 competitions. They're more indicative of who is likely to qualify for the Elite Eight competition.
  • Below are two tables: The first one is of how many points people are defending in the next three tournaments and the second is the the rankings sorted by how many EE points you currently have.

    -
  • If your name isn't on the EE Points list, you cannot qualify for the Elite Eight competition. If your name is on the list, you've at least some chance to qualify. The further down the list you are, the harder it will be. For example, for Tennis Sensation to clinch the 8th spot, he would have to win all three remaining events and make sure only the top 7 earn all the remaining points. So not bloody likely.
  • Based on current list, only kishnabe has qualified for sure. Jay, LCY, and aphex are very close. We should know the top four spots by the end of the USO.
  • Year end #1 is still up for grabs. kishnabe has an 11 point lead in the RACE right now - and with the YEC, Top8, and the other three events, there are still plenty of points up for grabs.

No poll for the slams. :( I know you're sad. I'm a poll troll, I know. And a promiscuous poster at that! Started this thread off with a nifty triple post.

And a Colts fan too. :-x

How's Manning's neck? :)

Can't wait for Schaub and Foster to light up the Colts week 1. It's going to be biblical! :)

Anyway in with Breaker for dubs. This can't possibly go any worse than Cincinnati. *knocks on wood*

In with a hope to improve a bit from Montreal/Cinci. Will do the dubs, too. Tammo, are you masochistic enough to give me another shot?

In with LCY, as usual.

Well, it seems I'm in a nice situation. Qualified for the doubles WTF, and since I'm fifth in the singles race, I might as well qualify for the singles WTF...

You're a Texans fan? *sigh* His neck is busy supporting his massive fivehead. :p Our seats at the Cincy tourny during the day session were next to a Titans fan who happened to work for the Titans. My brother had his Colts hat on.. and so for the entire Rafa/Fish and Roger/Berdych match the two of them during breaks were hashing it out - so I've had enough smack talk until the season starts! I was too busy trying to get Roger to overthrow his towel to me.

Speaking of football, does jbf#1 still need people? I forgot to check on the thread.

Oh that Jim Irsay... at least it wasn't song lyrics.

Why certainly.

Nyuk, Nyuk...in honor of the NYC venue, the proper spelling of your affirmitive Stoogian phrase is "Why Coitingly!"

Maybe the ball will bounce our way these next two weeks. I think I lost 10 points or more on third-set breakers going against me in Cinci.

Lolz, you're like Texans fan, le sigh!!

You know they just signed Kerry Collins...

The Titans are going to be pretty bad this year.

I'm calling the Texans to win the South this year. Book it!

Yeah, NYK texted me that a little while ago. We're both crying in the corner at our respective work places. :( :) but reallly :((

It makes absolutely no sense since they spent the entire camp working on an offense that works with Manning - not Collins. Ugh stupid front office.

I'm going to laugh so hard when the Colts have to start Collins against the Texans week 1.

Little pre-emptive warning. The weather forcasters around my way in Boston MA seem to think hurricane Irene is going to be paying us a visit this weekend and depending on what happens she may be packing quite a punch. Depending on what happens here, I might lose power or internet, if she does indeed come calling and has some intensity to her. If so, I'd probably just miss a day or 2...at least I hope..and if I do miss any of the opening days I give permission to use my partners picks for mine. I am doubting we'll really get hit hard, New England doesn't see hurricanes all that often....but just in case..better to give fair warning.

We'll know all the matches but the matches with qualifiers on Thursday night. If you want, you can go ahead and email me those picks and then if the worst does indeed happen, PSNELKE can just fill in those qualifier matches. If you email me now, I'll make sure to email you the list of matches from PPL on Thursday night.

Either way, stay safe!

Seff will be at the game in Indy. She's playing RT. Can't be worse than Diem.

Shows what you know, Diem has been practicing at Right Guard the last few weeks of camp and played at RG against the Redskins last Friday. Call yourself a fan. Psh. :p

I can't believe I let that go over my head.

That's hilarious though.

Guess I better start the Texans defense that week.

Hey now, I might not weigh much more than a 100 pounds, but what I lack in heft I'll make up with my feminine wiles... hmm not that I have any of those either.

Even still, Texans defense is like an oxymoron statement. :)

Awesome, that sounds great. I just sent you a message. I'm sure things will be good here...even when hurricanes get this far north they usually don't do much, and since we here build to deal with massive blizzards, I think we can deal with a hurricane haha. Worst thing that will happen is probably some minor flooding and power outages. But ya, I thought better to be safe then sorry.
