The way Djokovic went down in straight sets tells me something was up

He broke the Medvedev serve just once, and that was at the very end when he was already 2-0 down in sets and like 5-1 down in the final set and the crowd were putting Medvedev off. Straight sets is just not right. Accumulated fatigue maybe? Massive nerves of the occasion? Didn't expect Medvedev to play at such a high level? If he lost in a 5 setter, fair enough. But straight sets, come on... he didn't look himself at all. Didn't show the usual determination that he does.

He's on his way out.

Let the excuses flow

When Fed lost to Anderson at Wimbledon 2018 after a slip in the third set, Fed fans were mocked by Novak fans for suggesting an injury.

It turns out after the USO series, Fed admitted to a hand injury.

I’m personally not going to allow room for excuses when Novak’s fan base didn’t allow it.

Medvedev kept pressure by keeping with long rallies and short service holds. Match was barely over 2 hours. If it went over 3 again I'd say fatigue comes in but otherwise no. Daniil was no doubt fresher but he honestly didn't make enough mistakes for Novak to grab hold. Djokovic DID go 0-6 on BPs before the finally getting 1.

that's what happens if you keep adding mileage from earlier rounds. I was always skeptical of his form given he has been giving out 1st set in each of his game except 2nd round. This was bound to catch up as you put so many extra hours which can take a toll. This is where you play smart by not expending too much energy in early rounds.

Understand that age is catching up, but that's when you have to be smart.

The Novak mafia!

24 hours ago: Djokovic is playing at his peak! He's unbeatable! He'll win 40 slams! He's more fit than players in their mid to early 20's!

24 hours later: The way Djokovic lost in straight sets tells me something is up! He only broke Medvedev once! [Apparently, Medvedev serving well isn't a thing] Nerves! Fatigue! What the heck!

Nothing's better than the sweet tears, pathetic excuses, and kvetching of Novak fans. It's unthinkable that he got out-played apparently.

Too many hours on court. There were scores of threads about how Novak had too tough a draw. You must have missed them.

It's just bad energy to be glad someone lost, regardless.
I think most fanbases can agree that Novak was not in typical 'Novak' form tonight.
As to why? Well...
I think most fanbases can also agree that Daniil was the better player and deserved the win.

It tells me one thing. If you want to beat djoker at a grand slam, do it better in 3 sets. Since his resurgence in 2018, he only lost when it was straight sets demolition like 2020 FO or the lineswoman created havoc.

If the match goes to 5th set, he can turn it around.
So opponents should keep his in mind

It was a Combo of insane pressure on Novak and Medvedev zoning. Djoker didn’t have ice in his veins like he almost always does. So he wasn’t quite himself and who can blame him? But there were a couple of key things that caught my eye that told me Med was going to be a much tougher match than I initially thought. I am eating my words now, since I said that Zverev would be by far the toughest match of the tourney for him. I was wrong. But here’s what caught my eye:

1. Medvedev did an incredible job disguising his serves. Zverev and Berrettini did for one set, then Djoker starting reading them quite well and then was able to tee off on them by the 2nd set. Med was much better at mixing them up and he kept Djoker off-balance.

2. Long rallies. Medvedev got the better of Djoker on rallies of 5+ hits. I was shocked. At one point during the match, Med led Djoker 16-7 in long rallies. This is shocking. I vastly underestimated Medvedev’s running forehand. He was able to run deep into the corner and then hit a laser to bring the rally back to neutral quite often from that wing. And he held his own from the backhand wing quite well too.

3. Movement. The gap in movement has gotten much closer between him and Djoker . Medvedev moves quite well and he didn’t wear out today.

It’s a shame Djoker didn’t make history. He was one match short of doing the unthinkable. But congrats to for an insane year.

And congrats to a job well done by Medvedev. That was the performance of a lifetime. And it’s going to give the younger players more confidence to beat this legend in a slam final, since now, somebody broke the seal.

2022 is going to be quite interesting. With that being said, I think that Djoker can bag 2 more titles next year, provided he’s 100% healthy. . After that, it’s going to be very tough.

I'm not arguing that Djokovic's loss was not deserved. And that a draw is what it is. I'm merely arguing against the proposition that his loss was somehow mental.

That's how it goes. He had an all-time pathetic draw at Wimbledon.

Novak has a part in determining how many hours he has on court.

Nothing is sweeter than the lamentations of Novak fans.
