The weight of the weight in a drop weight Gamma

#1
Hi All,

I was just given a Gamma X-2 drop weight stringer - except that it doesn't have the drop weight on it - can anyone with one of these machine tell me how much the weight weighs?

Background:
I was given this machine by my colleague who had it hadn't used it in the two years since he bought it. He gave it to me to use, but he had lost the weight. The machine seems to be in fine shape otherwise, no other missing parts.

I've already checked with Gamma and yes, they can ship me another one. That said, its a cylindrical weight with a hole through it. I might be able to get a similar weight elsewhere - if I knew how much it weighed.

I took the opportunity to channel my inner Seuss and ask the question in the title.

Bonus points for anyone who can tell me if there's a place in the tri-state area I can go pick one up.

Thanks!

Nice. I think, "The weight of the weight on a Gamma drop weight", is the Seussiest though :p

Also, just knowing the weight wouldn't be enough, because if replaced with a weight with a different size/weight distribution, it would affect the leverage and hence tension being pulled. Though if you have a cheap fish/luggage scale, you could slap any weight on there and measure the tension being pulled (the numbers on the rod just wouldn't be correct). But best option is just to get a replacement from Gamma.

If you still need the weight for the drop weight machine I can help you with that. Our retail partners will not stock that part. Since they represent several manufacturers it is not possible for them to carry all parts for all machines. They only stock the accessories that are used regularly.
The drop weight is made up of two weights. The small weight is used if stringing for Badminton only. If you are stringing for tennis then you need the small and large weight. The weight of the weight is 5lbs, (both weights together). email your contact info at john.matechen@gammasports.com

John not only the weight of the drop weight is important but the center of mass of the drop weight. If the weight or the center of mass is off the tension will be off.
