The What's wrong with Grigor Dimitrov? Thread

Grigor gets some good wins (Nole in Madrid a highlight), but can't put a run together and has some absolutely horrendous losses. He will quite easily lose to someone 30 places below him in the rankings.

He just can't get consistency.

There is nothing wrong with him, he is the Melanie Oudin of the ATP. He had one good tournament with some good wins and the expectations are now unrealistic. Over rated.

Dimitrov is easily the most overrated player right now. He's 22 years old, outside of top 20, hasn't won a single ATP title and hasn't made a slam QF. He's honestly a joke.

Dimi is another one of those guys that has all the money he needs thru sponsorship. so he is more interesting in chasing hot women than chasing major wins

Good news - 'Team Overrated' are here.

It's a very easy opinion to have, but it's just lazy now - everyone now knows he's not going to be a future #1 or even a Grand Slam winner necessarily.

The 'What's wrong with him?' question is completely relevant. He's losing to players he shouldn't be losing to based on his current ability, regardless of any pie-in-the-sky overamplified expectations anyone might have.

His ability and talent is not overrated - he clearly has all the tools. Mentally though, he is some way off.

It is harder when you have all the shots, it takes longer to develop as you need to figure out how to use them. If you have more basic game you should develop quicker.

An example would be hewitt and Federer.

Don't write this boy off yet, i think he is going right to the top.

Maybe he's suffering from too much sugar in his diet? Perhaps if he cuts down a bit, he may be able to re-focus some energy on his flagging career! ;-)

Could end up like the ATP Tour's very own version of Kournikova. Although he's probably too talented NOT to win a tournament. Who knows, stranger things have happened.

Hewitt??:-?
His game was fully developed at a rather young age, winning many titles in his teens, and became the youngest no 1 in the world at the age of 20.

Sorry, I meant Hewitt developed more quickly than Federer as his game was more basic.

Just read that Dimitrov has left the academy in sweden. His coach says it's because he's now more in LA than sweden. Maybe he's putting more stock in his relationship than career (his decision, just speculating).

Yes,well he hasn't exactly got the normal girlfriend which is why the decision will be harder than it would be for most. I think once all this settles down and he's happy and comfortable with both the relationship and coaching situation,he should be fine.

Like Ryan Sweeting, Dimitrov has hit the big money bang theory jackpot.

Instead of copying Federer, he'll now be copying Federline...

Funny he's never played Federer. Strange, when you think of Grigor's matches against the big 4,generally he competes quite well but loses matches, sometimes badly, against journeymen. Maybe he just gets complacent and doesn't take opponents ranked below him seriously enough.

He's just not that good to be honest with you. People hyped him up to be this genius maestro just waiting to break out..all because his game looks like Fed's. But it's one thing to imitate a great player, and another thing entirely to BE one. I've said it before. Dimitrov will never win anything substantial until he develops his own identity, his own game. If he thinks he can cruise through the tour by copying Fed's game, he's sorely mistaken.

Everybody hyped him because his playing style is very similar to Rogers and hade a couple of good wins, like the one against nole. But looses and cant be consistant, he is really overrated. As someone Said he is ranked out of top 20, 22 years old, hasnt won anything and it doesn't seem like he will ever.

Don't jump the conclusions to soon. He'll get his hands on a 250, and I think it will be -s' Hertogenbosch open 2017.

I think Dmitrov trying to play like Federer without Federer's weapons, versatility, creativity and mentality is a bad mistake.

Another first round loss today for Dimitrov, this time to Kei Nishikori at the Shanghai Masters. Admittedly, Nishikori is the higher-ranked player...

So you've got no ambition either? Acting as Sugarpova's toy-boy won't win him much fame and fortune, especially when she gets bored and dumps him for some other up-and-coming young tennis player with even brighter prospects! Winning Slams and big titles is what will get Dimitrov noticed, justify the enormous hype surrounding him and ensure him fame and fortune to tennis fans worldwide!

It will also make him much happier in the long-run! ;-)

No, If I were him, I would have a 3 months bam bam with Sharapova followed by 'back to business' attitude. I always keep all the doors open. 8)

Exactly. Mainaid doesn't realize that there is also the option to dump HER.
I'd definately hook up with her for like 6 months and dump her some time later.
