Some might say the match of today was Amanda Anisimova upsetting Aryna Sabalenka, and indeed that was a terrific match. But it was actually the men’s doubles semifinals in which Rinky Hijikata (doubles rank #149) and David Pel (doubles rank #82) saved two match points in the super match tiebreak to beat #1-seed Marcelo Arevalo (doubles rank #1) and Mate Pavic (tied for doubles rank #1) 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (11-9). The drama of the match, especially the last 2 awesome points, was just as amazing as the story of the winners. Pel and Hijikata were third alternates and barely got into the tournament at the last minute. They had never talked before the tournament. This was their third match of the tournament facing and surviving match points. They are the underdog story of the fortnight.
