The year when Nadal had no answer to Federer's brilliance

Well... Thats mainly because Nadal lost 50-60 percent of the speed and explosion, and endurance he used to have. That helps. Not really because of Federer's " brilliance"

So, it goes like this...when Fedr is winning it is called brilliance. When Fedr is losing it is called a post-peak-old-age-not-in-form phase during the weak era.

Beating the crap out of a 5 yr younger opponent when you are entering the retirement age, and an opponent who is supposed to rule for another 5 years (or so) is called a masterclass.

When the same Fedr gets beaten up in 2019 the same people will be justifying it AGAIN as post-peak-old-papa stuff.

Aha!

Hopefully that proves not to use that age old disclaimer of Novak benefiting from Roger being 5+ years older! IDK about Roger exposing Rafa, but he certainly benefitted from a lapse in concentration and being shaken by aggressive play from the "old man!" If not for 2017, I'd still be able to make a joke of a so called "Fedal rivalry" even though Rafa really owned Roger until recently! I got a few good extra years playing in tournaments as a weekend warrior by relentlessly attacking my opponent! If I got a few "unreturnables" in each of my serving games, it was hard to beat me if my volleys and overhead were "ON!" Roger benefitted by having a more elegant game that didn't require extending himself too often! With Nadovic, most of their matches turn into a war of attrition! That "one way" traffic "down under" final will probably be more aberrant than the norm!:cautious::rolleyes:;)

That one way traffic you saw Down Under IS the current norm when Djokovic plays Nadal on hard court. Nadal has only once took Djokovic to a tie break on hard court since USO 2013 over 5 and half years ago. Nadal has to start winning sets on hard courts first to change that narrative.
