theatrics by Clemson assistant

Let's not ignore the theatrics from the Clemson volunteer assistant coach (not main two guys) today against UNC. Seriously, 'collapsing' after accidentally walking into a ball during a critical moment on court 4? Right at 4-4 in the third set, he chose to dramatically hit the deck, roll around, and then stagger—all at a crucial deuce. It was only after the head coach intervened that the charade stopped. This stunt directly impacted this court and the one next to it. It's one thing to be competitive, but this? It's another level of gamesmanship that really shouldn't have a place in college tennis. edit - Clemson player was serving

LOL. So I went back to the live video stream record, 8 hour video of the UNC women’s and men’s match combined. I just randomly clicked on a spot in the video and what are the chances it was on this exact moment. 6:10:20 mark of this video

Looks like it was Sander Koning the tertiary coach, assistant coach Austin Rapp is at the back fence in orange with the player.

One of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. No clue what he was trying to do. Get the UNC player defaulted? It was stupid because it was actually on the Clemson player’s (Mesarovic) serve, also a freshman. It also caused court 6 Matt Pitts to get distracted from a key part in his match to come over and check on him.

Ultimately I don’t think it had much impact because he got up rather quickly and the 40-40 point ended up being a drawn out rally so don’t think it really affected the UNC player’s play in the point (as opposed to if he had missed the return or something.)

But still a tremendously ridiculous moment that looked almost intentional (he watches the UNC player collecting the ball before walking across.) Also again raises the question of what are these coaches doing on the courts so much. Why is the 3rd coach cutting across the court on a 40-40 point, especially when the player is already getting coaching from the assistant?

I've watched a couple hundred team matches in the last 10 years. NEVER seen that before. That was an interesting melt and then stagger off afterwards. Rule number one going across a court is to have your head on a swivel. Literally, no harm, no foul. Seen much worse and coaches actually get hit with a ball that was hit hard.

What a clown, yes a lame attempt to get a default, and ACC / NCAA should remove him from team activities for long enough for him to think about it

I think he was being that dramatic because he wanted the guy to get defaulted not because men are starting to act like women.

I get what you're saying, but don't think that was at play here.
I think it's from professional sports. Flopping in the NBA or Soccer. That's pretty much what this guy was doing (or at least that's what he thought he was doing).

Did the player aim for him? He should clearly see the coach walking right?
Find the video in post #3. The UNC player softly bumped the ball back to his opponent without looking. While doing so the Clemson asst. had randomly walked across the court and the ball softly and unintentionally hit him in the head. Then he fell to the ground in theatrics.

Right and you don't know what rattling around in a kids head after that and the distraction....

"I just knocked a coach silly." "Man I hope he is ok"

That could even be more of what that goofball coach was thinking and why he should be sanctioned in some way.

Wild theatrics by him for sure. Not even played for a goof either. Not sure why he would do this.

Yeah it wasn’t meant as a goof for sure. You can see him kinda glance at the chair official on the court when he gets up. But gets up quicker and plays it off more once he sees the ump isn’t interested in anything.

And even though I pull for Clemson, there was a different assistant from a couple years ago who did some annoying antics. Always found an annoying cheer or something each match and glanced at the opponent after points when he did it. Trying to get into their head. (Which clearly didn’t work based on his ACC record as assistant at Clemson). I say leave that stuff for the bench players and fans.
