Thiem is becoming a consistent force at 3 Slams

I can see him passing the likes of Wawrinka, Hewitt , Roddick. Murray is the next step I wouldn’t rule that up but he needs to keep it up.

He can surpass Wawrinka and even Murray. Not because he is better than them but because the Big 3 will no longer be dominant in next few years.
Wawrinka and Murray won their Slams with the Big3 in full flight at that time. If Thiem wins 5 Slams, but they are all after the Big3 were not a serious threat (like this USO), should be be considered better than Wawrinka and Murray? I think there should be some context beyond just Slam count for evaluating the relative levels of pro careers.

Hey! Let him secure his first GS title tomorrow first. And than I am happy to jump into this discussion

I think he started a little too late compared to the Big 3 to start winning slams, and that’s if he even bags this US Open. 27 vs. 19 when Nadal won RG, 21 when Fed won Wimbledon and 20 when Djokovic won Australian Open.

I've always believed in Thiem, and this isn't a bit surprising to me. Always had the game, but finally its coming together. Tomorrow is the biggest match of his career. Would be devastating to throw this chance away of becoming a slam winner finally.

If he wins tomorrow. I can certainly see him winning at least 5 slams. After the big 3 he’s the best. The big 3 will slowly decline more in time.

Yes, Thiem’s time to dominate is coming. I still will never write off the big 3, especially Nadal and Djokovic but it will get more difficult for them as they age more.

Not as good as Murray (yet) but better than those you mentioned. Especially Roddick and Hewitt. Thiem is a more all rounded player.
Disagree but whatever. Those guys dealt with GOATS just like Thiem and Roddick was closer to beating one in a slam final.

Even if Thiem wins tomorrow (which is a big IF, Zverev is again being underrated here) I'm still not sure he can be fully trusted. Will he beat Djokovic if they meet on clay? I doubt it. Thiem should definitely be the better claycourt player at this point of their careers, but he is not good enough mentally, as we saw last year in their Madrid and RG matches. Even if Thiem wins this USO it will not be nearly as impressive as a win in the AO final would be.

When Thiem started getting upset and screaming at himself in Austrian yesterday, I really thought that he might choke or be mentally weak. If he doesn't win the final against Zverev he might really become crushed and it will really hurt him. But if he wins I think it will finally relax him and he can be a big force in the next few years.

I'm not saying I'm right either but I really think his game is better than Roddick and Hewitts. But his career is not as good as them, yet.

Maybe it’s just me... but if a guy who sprints backwards 10 feet behind the baseline to hit every rally forehand wins a hardcourt slam, and he’s not a left-handed freak of nature, I don’t think it will be a good thing for the evolution of the game.

Thiem has reached his peak now and is playing the kind of tennis me and a lot of other people on this forum knew he was capable of. The only person who has beaten him in a BO5, so far, on hardcourt this year is Djokovic. I think he is the favorite tomorrow to win his 1st Slam and also he is a young 27. He has a lot of miles to go in his career. 3 Slams is definitely not out of the question and if he wins this one, I think he can win more than 3.

Very unfair to compare everyone to Fedalovic. These are 3 GOATs and we may not see similar stats by anyone in next 20 years. And with better conditioning and work on physical fitness, the average career span is increasing for players. Today's 27 is nowhere close to 15 years' back 27.

Thiem is ready to win slams. As a Djokovic fan I realise he’s going to rise to the top soon. He’s 27 and in prime of his career. Thiem is 2nd fav at RG behind Nadal. Djoko is 3rd. Will be interesting though.

Pretty much depends on tomorrow's result. Thiem wins and we can hope he will surpass Stan / Andy (Murray) / Marat in Slam titles. Otherwise we will need to wait at least one month till Roland Garros and see if he can start with surpassing Roddick

I see him winning 5 slams.

When nadal retires after Thiem beats him or of old age he will gobble up clay slams because there aren't good clay counters around

Probably needs 25-30 slams more to be considered on par with even a Wawrinka

He is in the weakest era of all time and the proper weighting needs to be accounted for

Can he surpass Wawrinka?

Can he become the legendary borderline great?

I thought he'd win 0-1 Slams but that's looking like a pretty poor prediction at this stage.

He makes Slam finals at a fair clip, and he'll convert at least once more. That's conservative.

Very possible to have a Rafter/Wawrinka late career surge. Then it depends on his conversion. Rafter could have won 2 more Slams with close Goran final and Agassi SF (if not counting the Sampras Wimbledon final). Stan could have 2 more Slams.

Window likely is next 4 FOs, 3 USOs and another favourable AO draw.
