Does Thiem have issues in big finals??

Thiem is very open about his nerves. Foolishly so. He should save it for him and his shrink.

There's really nothing wrong with his mental: it's just that he has no plan B or variety when his tank runs dry and he starts spraying because his high risk style.

Which is almost the norm now with all the Top 10 ( Danii the notable exception) : hit and run as hard as you can until you drop dead from exhaustion. Avoid the net like the plague.

Yesterday some here said he is a better player than Stan

May be from a consistency standpoint but not when delivering against bigger players and high stake matches

So if he wins 5-6 majors does not mean he is better than Stan

Roger Federer would like to know your location

Of course he is scared of big finales, this was abundant;y clear much earlier.

Those 3 dumb errors he made midway through the 2nd set on Medvedev's serve cost him the match. This was classic fear of victory.

just like the double fault on match point in the match vs Novak, which resulted in the 3rd set which in turn resulted in another tie break, where if I remember well, Novak took the lead, and who knows what happened with Novak in that moment
just like the USO 2020 final, but unfortunately for both players, only 1 could lose, and 1 was bound to win

Lost to Fratangelo at RG and was never really the same player after.

lol

Nadal gets nervous and makes errors when he is ahead, Thiem is also doing the same of late in big matches if am not wrong. Hence that guru shishya comment :p
Still, bro wtf

Nadal is leagues ahead in terms of mental strength. When was the last time he lost a big final "under control"??

I'm not sure it's something we can fix for him. He always gets very nervous in big finals.
And he freely admits it. There's no reason for this malady not being fixed years ago. Borg at 27 was retired with 11 slams. Roger at age 27 had 15 slams.

Thiem has been on tour since he was 17 years old, there's no excuse that he still rarely serves out matches without being broken. He's seen sports psychologists and still said Saturday, "my whole body couldn't move due to nerves." Such a mindset at age 27 doesn't bode well for him in terms of racking up slam titles.

which is quite funny, considering that he literally destroyed his competition in the ITF Junior tour
if you look his results there, he was often, including in the finals, winning like 6:0 6:2

I just have no confidence in him ever beating Nadal at RG, or even Djokovic at AO.

His best hope is Roger coming back strong next year, who loves to donate tournament wins to rare-time winners.
