I don't trust his volleys and overheads with the left hand though.
His Fh volley looks decent in the IG post. Would have to see more of his Bh volley but, because he hits a pretty decent one-handed left Bh g'stroke, I would imagine he could master the Bh volley in no time.

The lefty OH might actually be a little bit easier for him than the serve. At least it was for me... mastered a non-dominant side OH a bit quicker than the serve. Got to the point where I was hitting 4.0/4.5 serves & OH on my weak side..

Is it because he is friends with Zverev he goes up to 5.0? I plan on hanging around him at Indian Wells then.
Yea, they’re such great buddies that Zverev decided that he didn’t want USO 2019, and he’d rather give it to Tim

Zverev might give you the Indian Wells trophy if he likes you enough!

If DT serves left-handed like this, it might be very tough to best a 5.0 guy

He is using an unknown serving technique. Need to view from behind in bright sunlight with minimal motion blur to see shadows which determine ISR

He should stop serving immediately until his technique is known. Search forum Chas Ellenbacker to understand risk of impingement on serve. Do not know if this applies to unknown techniques?

He should study joint kinematics with high speed video. Long axis rotation. Forest fires. What are cardinal planes? System malfunctioning…

Comedy gold. Can't wait for your channeling & parody of T Daniels, J Speeed or even S Anomaly.

Only saw one brief example of DT's Bh volley. However, his Fh volley could easily be higher than a 4.0 level. Not only does he hit it cleanly, with decent mechanics, his movement into the shot is waaay better than a 3.5/4.0 player
Exactly.
The point people are overlooking is that in the course of an actual match, Thiem would adapt and use his superior tennis IQ to obliterate the 4.0-4.5 player. He would figure out their weaknesses and attack. People also underestimate the competitiveness of a pro athlete.

is he playing with the left side just to stay in tennis shape. or does working the left side actually help you with the right side?

Its hard to determine that based on this video, but 5.0 is a very high level of tennis, I very much doubt Thiem could win a match against a true 5.0 player, unless maybe he would practice with his left hand for many months or years.

First we have to see if he can hit balls over the net from the baseline. The video shows him hitting dinks from service line.
