Thiem takes the first set! Started like a pretty exciting match, but I agree it's lost some of its competitiveness. Too many UE by Medvedev, and trouble with his serve.
6-4 Thiem. Time for him to win something on clay. Does he even have a 500 yet?
Yeah, he won Rio in 2017. A 500 on clay.6-4 Thiem. Time for him to win something on clay. Does he even have a 500 yet?
Med broken quicker than Rafa plays one point
I miss the VBAnother Fed devotee obsessed with Rafa!
I miss the VB
Things unravelling fast now for Medvedev after his confident start in the first few games. Maybe some fatigue setting in after yesterday's marathon with Nishikori?
Thiem looks the fitter of the two despite his own slugfest with Nadal yesterday.
Mad Lad is perfecting the Art of the Bullsheet BreakdownThis was very predictable from Medvedev. Very similar to his loss to Lajovic in MC where he lost 12 of the last 13 games.
He's now lost 9 of the last 10 here.
Medvedev being done. Thiem has just maintained a normal level. Is this another instance where Medvedev is running low on energy the further he progresses in a tournament or Thiem playing above his skillset?

He is absolutely magnificent at playing absolutely disgusting when he is getting outclassed.Didn't look good at all against Federer in Miami either. It's like I (and many others) have said for a while. There's nothing truly special about him or basically any of the younger guys, Thiem included. His game is decent, but he gives up quickly in some matches. He did it against Federer in Basel last year too, and that was when Federer was ripe for the picking.
LOL. This is all gravy for Meddy who was not supposed to do anything on clay. With this post Medvedev to win Wimbledon.Didn't look good at all against Federer in Miami either. He also just doesn't have the legs for big matches, and certainly not on clay.Didn't look good at all against Federer in Miami either. It's like I (and many others) have said for a while. MightyP out to lunch as usual. It's definitely not Thiem. If Medvedev played with the same level that he played Nishikori, he easily wins this matchup in straights. Medvedev definitely faded in a big way after the start of this match.
I miss root canals without Novocain.I miss the VB
Thiem with an easy win - there is nothing Medvedev can do to him on this court. His defense is not good enough and he’ll get dropshot to death if he stands too far back.
Have you even watched Medvedev play, like ever?
Defending 600 at Madrid so that's not going to be a given unless he wins either Madrid or Rome. Never seen Thiem playing this well so early in the clay season, usually gets betterer and betterer, but how is that possible with the level on display?Thiem gonna win Barca without needing so much as a tiebreak.
He did himself no favours by brainfarting vs Lajovic, but he should really be gaining points over the next 2 tournaments.

That would normally bother me, but this match is also crap.Tennis Channel randomly decides to abandon coverage to show WTA crap
You're just posting above your skill set.Is this another instance where Medvedev is running low on energy the further he progresses in a tournament or Thiem playing above his skillset?

Madrid is his best of the clay 1000s no? Just don't lay an egg there, draw Fraud, and reach at least semi.Defending 600 at Madrid so that's not going to be a given unless he wins either Madrid or Rome. He's just a small kid who doesn't know how to fightSo when he knows he'll lose he makes it look worse than it actually is. Which is basically the same as giving up. Is that what you're telling me?
The Nishikori match cost him a bit and Djoko win to be sure, but he was never going to win this match.Medvedev is definitely gassed. Very low first-serve percentage and hitting shots into the net. Legs are obviously gone. He's played a lot this year and should take at least one tournament off before the French Open. He doesn't have the fitness yet to stand a grueling schedule.
I remember Thiem having the same problem for a few years. Grueling schedule and then being gassed and/or injured as a result.
I have a feeling he's going to roll out on hard courts and forego July clay given his IW success and hopes at 2018 US Open.Madrid is his best of the clay 1000s no? Just don't lay an egg there, draw Fraud, and reach at least semi.
Really Thiem should also simply just win Hamburg and Kitzbuhel this year.
HahaI miss root canals without Novocain.
