Things you read on TT that you don't see anywhere else

I just read yesterday that my last seven years writing about emerging tennis talent is now considered by some highbrows around here as “propaganda” and “hype.” I guess someone in the know will establish when the proper moment is reached to discuss a new guy’s game.

The same highbrow insinuated that Sinner might have a career like Berdych, as though that’s throwing shade at the young man and also disqualifies him from being mentioned around here.

The same highbrow ignores the fact that Sinner at 19 had won three titles to teen Berdych’s one and those three put Sinner at 21.4% of the Czech’s career total with, barring injury/illness, roughly 15 good years to match.

Another highbrow labeled ATP500 Washington a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse tournament. Here’s just a partial list of the “Mouseketeers” winning there in the past:

Rosewall
Ashe
Roche
Vilas
Connors
Noah
Lendl
Gomez
Agassi
Chang
Korda
Edberg
Roddick
Hewitt
JMDP

It might be of interest that Nadal tried to join that list of slam/Washington champions but was denied by “slumping” Sinner.

Please give me a shout out if you like the “propaganda” flow and also vote with a “like” if I am to retain the Joseph Goebbels Chair for Dissemination of Propagandistic Messages.

“She is fit, not chubby. Polite and articulate. Lovely Lacoste shirt.
Such a welcome relief. Just what the WTA desperately needs in these days of whiners.
A star is born!”

On a thread about racquet specs
Mike Richards posting in the wrong category, no?

BTW, what is it with that name combo and sharing inappropriate opinions in public. Kramer first, now Jeopardy dude.

I just read a book review by someone who has skimmed through just the first chapter of the tale. By skimming, I mean outright lying about the main character’s highs.

I almost gave up on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo after about 40 pages of dry chatter about Swedish journalism by Stieg Larsson. People that I trusted for opinion said, “Stick with it, buddy! It’s a gem!”

I just read that Joe Kovic would not have come back from a 6-5 first set deficit vs Busta had he not been DQed. This confidence expressed by another highbrow is based on how ND handled their next big match. Somehow, their RG’20 QF just six weeks or so later was either forgotten or deemed not “a big match.” ND won in four after dropping the first set.

Honestly Djoker comes back and wins that set in my opinion.

I also read on Sunday that Tsitsipas barely won both first two sets at RG vs Joe Kovic. Can anyone let me know where a 6-2 margin (second set) is considered close?

I also read a freshly minted acronym to describe younger players. It’s called ngbs. Well, just to be cleared ngbs has run up a nice record today with at least 11 wins. That’s some royal quality blue ribbon male bovine byproduct. That’s also a tight wedgie pulled up around someone’s neck, cutting off blood supply to the grey matter to call it ngbs.

@stringertom - did you get a chance to watch any of the Rune vs Joe Kovic match? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
Watched all of it. Other than Rune winning the TB it was close to my imagined script except Joe Kovic chose to fade from near perfection in the first set when he fell behind early in the second. I thought he might stumble in the first set and then turn on the jets. I think I predicted Joe Kovic in three with one crooked number, like 7-5 6-1 6-1.

It’s not hype or ngbs or propaganda. Rune will be doing big things and it won’t take long. The guy has all the tools; they just need polishing and refining a bit. Stamina is an obvious weakness to address. Champions can’t start cramping in third sets in moderate conditions.

I just read that fans attending team sports can’t get as close as tennis fans do to the players during competition. I have to guess the member posting that has never attended a NBA game or even watched one on TV.

Scanning Pro Racquets & Gear section is a very informative pastime if you need to know things like that Botic van de Zandschulp uses a stock Babolat Pure Aero Drive 2019 or that Steve Johnson wears taped over ASICS shoes to avoid violating his Yonex head-to-toes contract terms.

If van de Zandschulp injects silicon into the handle and adds lead under the bumper he will win USO !

If he keeps his PA stock he is destined to remain a 3.5 forever :-D

Early yesterday, I read that Carlos Alcaraz’s own words should not be trusted over a TTW armchair analyst when the teen player in the USO said in his post-match presser that he doesn’t try to play like any one player but that if he had to narrow it down to one player it would be Federer. The armchair analyst said the player’s opinion couldn’t be trusted because he is too subjectively involved in his own development.

This is without a doubt the most delusional post I have ever read in my 11 years on the forum.

Some people just hate Fed too much that it blinds them.

Quite an achievement really

On Novak's draw:

"That's fricking scary. Don't remember draw as tough in the recent tennis history tbh. Absolutely brutal draw. o_O"

Besides Novak, Cilic and Murray were the only other players in the draw to have won a mens singles major and both lost in the first round.

Joe Kovic fans may have mad stringing skills because they develop great knot tying skills on genitalia covering apparel they pull up real tight around their necks.

I keep reading this all the time: "Federer isn't officially retiring because he wants to keep sponsorship money rolling in. The knee surgery and rehab is a hoax".
Because trying hard to save your career (a career you love and you're really, really good at) is not a believable enough reason...

Most here will acknowledge I am not prejudiced in favor of Earth’s Neediest Warrior in many aspects but I’m not willing to go where this forum member has just gone today:

“Place him (Djokovic) on the faster outer courts where everyone else has had to play, make him play a full schedule and he’s out in the second round.”

The source for this gem wished me well recently in regaining my mental health after a discussion of another matter. Should I extend the same courtesy concern?

And on thread topic... I guess you know better than Mardy, guy who played and lived tennis...LOLOL...
Said this is why I cant dislike Djoker based on something other than Djoker beating Fed... Mardy Fish know more about my fandom because he plays tennis... :X3:

I have to ask logical peeps without an ulterior hateful agenda to take part in a survey:

Give a one-to-three word description of your mood concerning a young pro who has in the last 31 months gone in ranking from 500 plus to 14, reached a slam QF and two R16s, won three ATP titles and has a decent chance to play in Torino this November. Would you be:

a) disappointed
b) hopeful
c) confident
d) suicidal and repentant (for Sinning)
