Djokovic is not talented enough.
Djokovic only came close in 2013 because Nadal's knee hadn't recovered yet, because I remember Nadal's physio saying that Nadal's knee will be sniff for the first half of 2013, and many of us noticed him dragging his knee on occasion.
And Djokovic beat Nadal at 2015 Roland Garros, but it was the year Murray AND Wawrinka both beat Nadal in straight sets on clay, and numerous other humiliating results.
So there is no proof that Djokovic has the talent to beat Nadal.
Especially when you consider that Djokovic has lost to Thiem twice at Roland Garros....

Preparation is usually the key to success for a slam run. The Nadal may come in undercooked with only Rome to get him primed. Joe Kovic may come in raw at Cinci/NY and well done at RG if he plays all three (Cinci, USO, Rome) and goes deep.

The one who may have done the best preparation is Thiem and his relative youth may have him primed all the way through this marathon of two M1Ks and two slams in seven weeks.

"If we ignore all the reasons Djokovic might be able to beat Nadal, there's no way he beats Nadal!"

I remember my daughter, 4 or 5 at the time, watching some Roland Garros tennis with me. The Nadal was entering the stage and she said "dad, isn't that the guy who has never lost while healthy?". I should point out she asked in Norwegian, she didn't speak English at the time, but I assure you the translation is correct.

Nadal bags 13th RG this year I think.
Of course, he could also develop cramps or injuries after such an extensive layoff. Especially at his age. But he's still the favourite.
Thiem is second favourite I would think. Djokovic maybe 3rd. But after 5 months off, we could see them falter. Who knows?

Exciting times. The first ever edition of the Djokovic Open. :)

Well if there's ever there's a RG that Nadal fans should feel sorta ok about losing and Novak winning, it's the one in a weird abbreviated calendar played in a different month under different weather in a remodeled court where Nadal is getting an even later start by not playing the US Open.

I thought about it and yes, he could win it - he is the #1 ranked player in the world, #1 seed, has won 5 of the last 7 slams, has won RG in 2016, has beaten Nadal at RG, has beaten Nadal 7 times on clay, weather might be cooler and RG courts lower-bouncing than usual. Seriously though, I would rate his chances as much lower than Nadal and Thiem and that’s assuming he is 100% healthy with no lingering respiratory after-effects from his positive test. If he continues to serve as well as he did at the start of the year, his chances might be better than at last year’s French Open.

I’ve thought about it.

I’ve discounted it as a realistic possibility though, since Nadal shall be well rested and ready to continue his supremacy at Roland Garros.

I've thought about it. Could you imagine the uproar here if Novak wins all three majors played this year? With Wimbledon, which he won the last two years, cancelled? TTW might never recover.

I am saying that for a long time... Novak was unlucky many times at FOR, and it's time for leveling...

It looks like the French Prime Minister said today that they plan to extend the ban on public gatherings over 5,000 people till the end of October. So, maybe no fans at the French Open also??

This might cause more upsets in early rounds of the French Open than usual as I suspect will happen at the USO also. Lower seeds and unranked players might win more close matches against higher seeds without having to deal with the crowd cheering on the top players. Wonder if it might really open up the draw for one of the top 3 - Nadal, Thiem or Djokovic.

Rafa 33%
Novak 20%
Thiem 25%
Rest 12%
If there weren't a pandemic I would say the probability would probably be something like:
Nadal - 76%
Djokovic 20%
Thiem 3.9%
Rest 0.1%

I think due to the uncertainties caused by the pandemic, we can bring Nadal down to 65%. Bring Djokovic up to 25%. Bring Thiem up to a staggering 8%. And 2% for the rest.

Nadal is finished winning slams, its over. Thiem, Medvedev, etc, their growth and his decline are close to equilibrium at some point in the very near future; oh and Djokovic absolutely owns him

This is probably the year that Nadal is not a clear favourite to win. I expect that he will be dethroned.
