What's the thinnest string sold on tw?
Lux Timo 1.10mm, Polyfibre Poly Hitec 1.10mm. If you want to be even more specific, Gamma Fusion Plus 19 which has 1.08mm Aramid mains with 17g TNT crosses.
I would assume they also sell the Ashaway 1.10mm Kevlar too, but the stuff in the Gamma package is thinner yet.
Is the Fusion Plus a Kevlar hybrid?
Yep, I actually used it once as a teenager.
How is/was it?
I wasn't good enough to realize its benefits, but it's a fairly popular string setup. I personally have not seen it since I bought that one set back in 2003.
Yea, Fusion plus 19 is a nice aramid (kevlar is a type of aramid) string.
Very low powered, much lower than even poly, and the spin and bite on the ball is like no other setup. Forten and Ashaway's thin kevlar should play similar.
What I liked about Gamma Fusion 19 is that is also has some nylon woven into the kevlar mains, so it is a bit easier on the arm than traditional kevlar strings like Pro Blend.
For a nice treat, use Gamma Fusion 19 mains and cross it with a budget gut in 16g for crosses. Helps add a little feel and power, but still going to be very low powered overall. Felt-ripping spin like nothing else.
How about a soft co-poly? Or a multi like NRG2 or NXT?
I used this stuff years ago w/ gut crosses & loved it. Originally, they sold it as Extreme Spin 19, which was a full pack of the 19g Kevlar. I bought all the remaining packages (seriously) back in the early 2000s when I found out they had discontinued it.
I've since moved away from it, but there is one person I string for who uses it in the mains w/ gut crosses. I still have 2 more packs remaining, good for 4 string jobs, then I'm going to have to give him the bad news...
