This could be a blessing in disguise for Djokovic

Losing at the Olympics could well be a blessing in disguise for Djokovic. It releases a little of the pressure that would have been building to boiling point before the US Open, it reminds him that he is going to have to fight for every victory in his search for the Grand Slam and it silences the Fed-trolls with their weak era nonsense. The players in the current field will win numerous slams. As I have said before, weak eras (like 2003-06) can only be called years after the fact.

Djokovic's achievements this season are already legendary, regardless of what is to come.

Djokovic is 20 times slam champion. He has been in this position before. He didn't lose due to pressure and this loss has no silver lining. Zverev was simply better.

I had to laugh when I saw AO being called weak. Peak Zverev in the QF with his missiles on every serve and groundie. Peak Medvedev in the F who was 50/50 with TTW and bookies.

These guys will go on to win multiple slams as you say. Retrospectively, this era will be considered strong with Djokovic holding off the future ATGs to win 3 slams , possibly a 4th for CYGS.

Players winning majors does not change the definition of strong and weak eras

You really think Thiem’s historic major win is valuable ?

Could be a confidence blow as well. We'll find out when the time comes!! I'd still have Djokovic at 80% sure to win. I can't outright give it to a 34 year old who has only won the tournament 3 times weak era or not but he is still firm favourite.

This is some major copium from you, Spenny
I have nothing to cope with. I don't think tennis should be played at the Olympics. I have no interest in who wins. I wanted Djokovic to be going for the Grand Slam as I think it created interest in tennis going into the US Open.

Nadal remains my favourite player of those still playing. Unlike Federer fan(atic)s we Nadal fans applaud greatness wherever we see it. Djokovic is certainly the greatest player of the poly era. Whether he will attain the ultimate crown depends on what happens next.

Let's hope he releases more pressure by losing the USO....then he will be ready for CYGS in 2022.

Yes they'll win slams in the future which will make this era suppa stron in retrospect.

Because that's how that works.
And Roddick and Hewitt are slam winners, Hewitt was even no 1, which is, for Fed fans, prove they were great competition... The fact they are 0:16 against Fed doesn't change "fact" they were great opponents...
Tsitsipas, Zverev, Med, Thiem, already have more wins then "great competition" ever had...

I think he was feeding invincible after beating Nadal in RG. This loss will bring him back down to earth

This changes nothing...

If Fed had to deal with the likes of Dimitrov Raonic Nishikori Medvedev Berrettini Zverev Tsitsipas Kyrgios Ruud etc. instead of Djokodal, he would have had 30 slams with GCYGS and multiple CYGS

I think after Djokovic won Wimbledon that anything else is all gravy especially for rest of 2021. The main target was to catch and tie Fedal in slams. I’m guttered for Novak but this loss doesn’t hurt me that much. Losing one of the french or Wimbledon finals would have been worse. Especially to tsitsipas after beating Nadal but he overcome it.

Yes he’s never gonna win singles Olympic gold but you can’t win everything. Just like Nadal and federer have not won everything. It was Zverev‘s day and he deserved it. I’m happy for him and I think he’ll win it now. Novak can still get another bronze but either way today he just got outplayed and it happens.

Novak will be back but the us open will be tough too. Still if he wins nothing else this year I feel every djokovic fan would have signed up for what he’s done in 2021.

This loss can work both ways. Either it takes pressure away and he rests and comes out firing for us open. It could also have a negative affect and he comes out flat at us open and loses early or say in quarters.

We don’t know yet but Djokovic is very experienced. He will be disappointed but the older he’s got the better he’s dealt with these setbacks. I think he will be fine but the field at us open will be tough and it’s an open slam in my eyes. It’s been the most open slam for years and it will be no different this year.

no matter what Fedfans want us to believe....Zverev and co. would destroy the "Fed era" players...the levels aren't even close

LMAO! Fed handled all the Djokodal next era chumps with ease even at the age of 37 but he would be destroyed by them at his peak and prime....

The pressure is even bigger now.
The Jokers knows now that he choked once. His opponents know it, too. There is blood in the water.
Djokovic will not win the Grand Slam.

This "Nadal Fan" seems more interested in Djokovic's GCYGS. Some "Nadal fan" you are. Now take the L and move on.

Weak era can be called weak era during it. But you don't know tennis so I get the confusion.

Your man loss, if you think khach is winning slams, then tennis is dead.

You think Pancho Segura was better than Pancho Gonzales so I'm afraid I'll have to file your tennis opinions under "utterly clueless".
You don't have Fed in your top 5, I will file your opinions as "club tennis IQ."

I am sure they have other boards for olds guys like you to talk club tennis.
