This has really got a USO 2014 feel about it

Not about Cilic winning it all, necessarily, but about seeds and favourites falling off the wayside left and right. Federer and Nadal are still firm favourites to make the final at this stage, of course, but so were Fed and Djokovic at USO 2014, and we all know how that turned out.

Let's see how this goes, but I wouldn't be surprised should we get an Edmund-Sandgren final, tbh (okay, maybe Edmund-Chung, then).

And wouldn't Edmund winning on his first try be something after Murray lost a gazillion finals over the last few years?

Edmund isn't winning a slam rofl. Probably the pinnacle of his career right here.
Johansson won one not that long ago, and that was *Thomas* Johansson, in case you're wondering. Funny how selective memory works, isn't it? ;)

Anyway, Dimi was pretty dominant vs Edmund, so the point is moot, now, isn't it? Oh wait... :D

I don't know. As far as I am concerned, this only has a USO 2017 feel about it. Nadal - Chung final.

Johansson was a better player than Edmund even.

The overration of this mug has to stop.

Gotta love when you're channeling your inner 90's Clay. You definitely need to put your MUGS in all caps and use your ROFLMAO's to better effect to score easy points or you'll never reach his level of GOAThood, though. ;)

Just think, 12 months ago we were getting GOAT level threads left right and centre :( the trolls are all MUGS now ROFLMAO.

Gotta love when you're channeling your inner RF-18. You definitely need to stop though because it decreases everyone's IQ by at least five decimals per sentence.

I strongly doubt we will see anything other than a Fedal final. 2018 amd they are STILL playing slam finals against each other.

The two Gods of tennis.

Yeah, it's crazy how those guys make their competition look weak.

Nadal has more longevity than even the great Djokovic who is supposed to have perfect body for tennis.

Good luck for Djokovic for the rest of the year, Hitman.

Once he gets his injury recovered, he will start winning majors again imo.

He got some serious matches under his belt the last 1 1/2 weeks and I think by Wimbledon he will be starting to really get back to where we know he can be.

Agreed, it surely looks that way today. But then, yesterday, a Nadal-Dimitrov semi also looked like a sure bet, and two days ago, a Federer-Djokovic semi did, too. So you never know. They still have two matches to play each. ;)

It's becoming more and more clear that their slam tallies are less to do with their god-like abilities and more to do with their opponents having feet of clay.

Edmunds played great. Hitting hard shots and Good strategy (hitting backhands). Dimitrov could not dominate the match. I will not surprised if he beat cilic.
Cilic has better serves but edmunds hit better groundies and Cilic is a slightly slow mover.

That's okay. ;) Federer reacted well during the Berdych match (after which he said he had an odd feeling he might go out too, after what happened to the other favourites, and he was feeling a ton of pressure like in AO 06 and USO 14). This is just a tennis match, and Cilic will have to play his best tennis (and hope for a subpar Fed) if he wants to have a shot at this. If he does, it'll probably be a very special performance from him, and if he doesn't and/or Fed is just too good for him anyway, #20 will be very sweet, too.

Still favouring the Golden Eagle at this stage, though. Obviously. Soaring over 20 would be so Sexi... ;)

I really like Cilic and would be happy for him if he won. But if Fed loses this, I don't see another slam coming this year or maybe ever...19 looks like such an incomplete number.

Whether he wins or loses, I don't think he stops here anyway. If his body holds, there are five "impossible" achievements I think he still has a chance at, crazy as this may seem (here in ascending order of whatthefuckness):
- #1 at 36/37 (he's almost there already should he want it, like 99% chance should he win today)
- Connors' 109 official titles--this one is clearly on his radar and will depend on his 2018 season, imho
- Oldest slam winner (needs to win one in 2019+ to one-up Rosewall, totally doable from what we're seeing now from him and the field)
- Court's 24 slams (yes, for real--look at Williams' renaissance in a depleted field after 30)
- A shot at CYGS 2018 (for kicks and giggles) so he can stop being compared to that Laver guy :p

The last two may seem totally crazy, but let's see what today brings, first... ;)

CYGS is not crazy if Nadal falls apart with injury before RG
