This match is truly as big as it gets.

One player is defending the Wimbledon title, the other player is defending the number one ranking. Champion vs champion, title for title.

Winner takes all today.

Whoever walks out Wimbledon champion, walks out world heavyweight champion also.

If Djokovic gets it, he is going to smash 400 weeks barrier at number one, as he has zero points to defend over the summer hard court season with Alcaraz defending the US Open title. If Alcaraz gets it, he will be the first multi surface grand slam champion at age 20 since Wilander 40 years ago.
 
This match is even bigger than RG semifinal, i hope Carlos has taken a good aproach mentally because as you said, this is as big as it gets, thisis the cathedral of tennis and he hasnt lost a match here in many years, but just because of that as well, if he wins here it would be the greatest statement carlos can make, this is his time, time to display that crazy total tennis.
 
I think this might end up being Djokovics most important match of his career. Winning a 8th Wimbledon, 24# GS title and securing 400+ weeks #1 and probably also another YE#1. Doesn‘t matter what happens at USO, this will cement his GOAT status for decades.

I don’t see it like that. It’s just another day at the office for Novak. This is a bigger game for Carlos.

The next closest winner takes all finals, was the first (Novak) final of 2011 where the reigning AELTC, US Open, RG champion (Nadal) played the reigning AUS open champion (Novak) in a winner also will be the world No. 1 (and the loser No.2), winner takes all game

That was the first, this is the ninth finals. Exactly the same deal on the table

People will claim "Djokovic was beating bums and clowns and vulturing majors for the past 3 or so years. And the first real legendary player of the new generation that finally emerged, Djokovic failed against." :p :-D
 
Not anywhere as big a match as Rafa v Roger in 2008 or even Rafa v Novak at 2011 US open where in those cases the current/previous world No1 (in their prime) was taking on their would be usurper. In this case we have an aging Tennis champion towards the twiglight of his career taking on would be king. Exciting yes, high stakes yes but as i said miles behind the likes of Roger V Rafa in 2008.

It doesnt really matter that he is in the twiglight of his career if he is winning everything, but yeah a little less important than those matches.
 
If Novak wins then he is the undisputed world number 1 as he will have won 4 out of 5 last big matches. Just like before Wimbledon.

If Raz wins then they are even. Because Nole was clearly healthy and stopped at USOpen and 4 masters in USA last year and Nole will still have ATP finals but Raz will also have many masters to balance.

lol no, if carlos wins he shows he is able to beat him in a major and aus open will be heavily asterisked, as well as RG, where he would have beat him at best of 5 without physical problems, this is the last place djokovic should be losing to alcaraz, if he loses here, he loses everywhere, and carlos will continue being the deseved number 1.

Novak has the weeks at #1 record and no one is close to him now, so all good.

Much bigger prize for Carlos here. If he wins he'll be the legitimate #1 for the very first time in the rankings, in the absence of any points freeze, disruptions, bans, etc.

Nole has been banned for 8000 pts still. Rogers cup, Cincinnati, USOpen, IW, Miami. Raz won 2 of them last year and made finals in 1. That's where he got 3600 pts which Nole even when fit clearly couldn't get.

Yes because I don't think Nole would have even played well in IW Miami. It's no big loss. But entire summer hard court series he would have been playing well trying to win USO. So let's wait until USOpen.

Who said its novaks fault? What i saidis that all that djokovic has shown until now is that he can beat him when he cramps, the match where he didnt cramp carlos won it, lets see today.
 
Weird though having Alcaraz be #1 going in with 1 Slam Final/Win vs. 2 Slam wins and WTF, almost as if the ranking in place is farcical...

Would be a huge upset for Alcaraz to win.
