Espn Star sports is showing in India a doubles match just because one of the players is Indian, Mahesh Bhupathi whereas Federer 3rd round singles is going on.

No disrespect to Bhupathi, but Star Sports doesn't know that the tennis followers in India prefer to see game's biggest players (Federer, Nadal) in action when they are playing.
Here not many people follow tennis, and who ever follows sees it for tennis brilliance.

Now, how to contact them and give feedback. The presenters are Alan Wilkins and Vijay Amritraj who probably decide what match to show.

On day one, StarSports in South East Asia also showed the complete Mirza-Groenefeld match. I know Mirza is Asian and all, but by subjecting us Asians to this boring match, we missed the exciting rollercoaster first set of the Federer - Lu Yen-Hsun (who also happens to be Asian) match. Oh, and Mirza's present WTA singles ranking of 85 is LOWER than Lu Yen-Hsun's ATP ranking of 65.

Whoever makes the decisions in what to air live should be fired.

Agree. Mirza is one of the most boring, one dimensional player to watch. I cannot stand more than a game at a time.

It's not bad to show Asians playing at Wimbledon but to cross over from the big names is not a good decision. I can't complaint that much because they are the only broadcaster across Asia who's showing Wimbledon live.

This exact same incident actually happened during the start of the broadcast, Sania was playing and they decided to show it first effectively missing some of the first set Roger played.

ESPN and tennis channel focuses too much on American players/Sharapova

As I said in an earlier post, the infuriating thing was that Roger was playing Lu Yen-Hsun, also Asian, and higher ranked in the ATP than Sania is in the WTA. That match was MUCH more interesting, specially that unbroadcast 1st set where the two exchanged breaks.

I am watching the tight match between Tsonga and Karlovic on my computer. I got up to see what ESPN had on. They were showing a feature of Brad Gilbert and Darrin Cahill showing people how to hit swinging volleys and diving volleys on grass. You know, things that the typical tennis player does - swinging volleys? ahem. Diving? Oh yeah, so many people play on grass too. My point is that is was a nice light spot to show, but not during live tennis.

Heck I'd be happier if ESPN would spend more time showing tennis and less time talking amongst themselves. Besides, they cut to commercial after almost every point. Thank God for DVR.

But speaking of the bigger names, I do agree. They were showing one of the Williams sisters playing, and then cut over to RF's center court game and they were already 4-1 in the first set. Sigh.

^^here in the US, we're hoping Roddick, Blake, Williams, Maria would lose early to get decent coverage

I bolded who I want to lose. Not to be harsh but ESPN has to show women's tennis as they will be ridiculed if they did not so I pray the Williams sisters stay alive so at least I get an interesting tennis match and why hope Roddick loses, he actually is good on grass. Oh yea I am sorry lets watch another ****ing snooze fest like Giles Simon vs. Gael Monfils at least when Roddick plays someone it is interesting with his huge serve.

ESPN in america has shocked me it has been okay we have seen all the top dogs matches, they have also covered the good matches like they were covering Tsonga vs Karlovic this morning and they showed Levine's five setter, they have been giving a pretty good am mount of matches but then that is probably because both Blake and Maria lost all ready =]

Oh an to answer the why Maria question it is because for some reason ESPN in america is in love with Maria Sharapova and we see every match she is in cause they are convinced she is the greatest thing since Chris Evert.

Star Sports' coverage this Wimbledon has indeed been disappointing. I remember during the Australian Open, they'd start off with lower-ranked players' matches first (the ones whose matches began earlier), and THEN immediately switch over to Rod Laver arena when the big names came on court. They're not even doing that now - was trying to watch Federer-Kohli the other night and they were showing Djokovic instead, who had in fact already completed his match.

I don'r know what you were watching but I was watching TSN on day 1

TSN has more than 100 hours of live coverage from the oldest and most-prestigious tennis tournament in the world, WIMBLEDON, beginning Monday, June 22 at 7 a.m. ET (10 a.m. ET on TSN2).

And they've been showing 10 hours of tennis every day. LIVE. Amazing coverage of tennis as usual considering the lack of popularity of the sport from the general public.

StarSports in Asia also has about 10 hours of live Wimbledon (longer for US Open) daily (8pm to about 5am), and replays the same thing in the daytime. Its not the quantity, its the choice of which match to air that bugs me.

I already wrote them at that very time
on their website espnstar.com, clck on Wimbledon and then Feedback. However. there's no way they will listen to you.

Also, please note that on Monday after the Bryan Bros match (1200 hrs) is the dubs match with an indian on both sides/ including Vijay's dear son Prakash. The match will be shown live at the same time as the Federer Soderling (1pm) match !!! DARNNNN !!!!

THeir last match went into five, cos Prakash etal could not close out matchpoints in set 3. DAMN its a best of FIVE here for dubs too.

Those gits also like to overdose us on Serena Williams for Christ's sake.

I might add, we will not only miss Federer Soderling on Monday but also Federer vs Verdasco/Karlo (assuming Fed wins) on Wednesday.

Since there is an indian on both sides on monday, so one will go through to Wed's match.

Looks like no Federer for us this WO :-(

Also, the next morning these guys replay the entire doubles match (whatever all they showed the prev night). Its not like they show the other / missed matches the next day.

IF these live streams were half decent, i would chuck ESPNStar and watch them.

^^ Yes, the first match at 1300 hrs.

MORE BAD NEWS For singles fans:

There is also a MIXED DUBS match featuring my fav team Sania/Bhupathi vs Leander /Black.

This one starts "not before 1700". So if they show this one too, then its doubles day for us. No singles except for some WTA which they *have* to show, so we learn to appreciate the Williamses and Safina.

Since there are indians on both sides, of BOTH doubles matches, it seems they will keep coming on the Federer days till they lose.

Now I love Leander, and the Bhupathi/Sania combo, but to have to see them and miss out on Federer really really sucks.

Its not like there are many more years of Federer left, and its not like Slams come every month. We guys pay money to these channels to see the Slams, we pay to see the top seeds, not doubles matches at the expense of top seeds. Will ESPN Star get this.

Star Sports is under the great impression that every Indian is longing to see (just like cricket stars) Bhupathi, Mirza and co. playing doubles.
Whereas the truth is no one cares much about them playing doubles (unless it's a final). Indian tennis followers want to see
Federer, Nadal, Djokovic etc. in action.

Earlier there was some excitement about Sania when she reached 4th Round US Open in singles. People had some hopes. But now nothing, people know she will lose in 1st round or 2nd round in singles inevitably.

Bhupathi, Leander etc. doesn't even got one advertisement. Sania Mirza has some because of her good looks.

I called, not much success. Nitin wasn't there. One person told that Singapore decides (to pass the buck)

Friends, the change isn't so easy. Because matches to show are controlled by Star Sports studio at Wimbledon. Though the policy must have been made before.

When the match starts today and they do the crap, protests should be everywhere
in India/China/Taipei etc.

See the above numbers.

I've made several calls to Nitin who is not taking the calls. Some peon is taking the calls and say Nitin has left for the day. The rest of the staff is in London.

So basically there is not much that can be done. We likely will just have to watch doubles instead of Federer/Djokovic/Verdasco.

I actually tried to explain to the peon in Hindi what the problem was, but what can the poor chap do. I was expecting that Nitin may be sitting nearby not wanting to take any calls.

This is India for you, guys, the customer has to just suck it up. Meanwhile Vijai will be glad and proud that his son gets airing throughout the country ... sorry for being such an a*** but I am pissed.

Yes, to some extent I see that the host nation tries to show you more of their own players. Like last FO, they showed too much of Alice Cornet.

Otherwise, i think its upto viewer nations to request that their own persons matches be aired for them. The Indian players doubles are only for INDIA as far as I know. The rest of Asia will get to see Federer et al.

Funny that this should be controlled from Singapore office, if each country is getting to select its own matches, then shouldn't each country office get to make the selections themselves?

Also, I remember reading in some thread that the Sania Mirza match was being shown all over Asia (instead of the Federer - LU match, even though LU is an Asian, and that too, higher seeded than Mirza)

When the dubs match was shown on Friday, it said something like "only for india" or indian viewers.
In earlier years, i recall them saying that they make a request to Wimbledon or whatever to show them a match with Sania in it, and sometimes they would get it, sometimes not. Sometimes they would get a taped copy and show it later.

So even though Asia may get to see the same, with Asian players if they are there, but I think in specific cases a country could make a request.

I am wondering how the livestreams get all these matches of all courts. Which are these countries which are showing all courts.??? I'd like to move there :)

Anyway, if you are NOT Indian, it would SUCK to have to see Paes and Bhupathi when Federer is on. We cannot complain, since we would look like unpatriotic, and unsporting etc etc. But no one can expect you guys to keep quiet. You have every right to take this up with ESPN.

There could be another reason for that. Fed's matches are being played first. And they always show 90 mins or 2 hours of ladies matches before switching to Mens. So they were showing their WTA quota. Within the WTA quota they may have opted to show Sania i/o some Russian or other player.

If Fed;s matches are starting at 1300 hours you can be sure that you will miss the first set each time

I actually look forward watching top-level doubles, such as the Paes-Bhupathi team back when they were together and seeded in the draw, the Paes-Navratilova tandem, and the 2006 version Zheng Jie - Yan Zi pair. But this was at their peak when they were a force to reckon with, and they deserved the coverage because their matches were played at the highest level. In fact, today, I'd rather watch the Paes-Black vs Bhupathi-Mirza match than the Roddick-Berdych tussle. Paes-Black are after all seeded 1st, and anything that pits Paes against his ex-partner Bhupathi is at the very least intriguing. But nothing can come between me and a complete Federer vs Soderling coverage tonight.
