this is when i start to miss thiem even more

Dominic Thiem surely would’ve cleaned up pro tennis by now if he was healthy. he would’ve easily won RG and possibly AO as well, along with several slams in 2022. djokovic’s reign should be over, it should instead be thiem and alcaraz trading slam titles, losers like sinner and medvedev shouldn’t even be in contention. thiem was the only player to be able to actually hit through djokovic consistently and it was a wonder to watch. sad his career is basically over due to injury

Last time I checked Thiem got healthy in March of last year...did he get reinjured recently?

No idea really, i just wish Thiem came back to his top form to see how he would fare.
i recently watched extended highlights of his RG 2019, ATP Finals 2019 and 2020 matches against Djokovic. those matches show his potential as the only player capable of consistently hitting through and beating djokovic

He had that match against Tsitsipas and got tight at the end in the tiebreak. He really could have won that.

I disagree that he would’ve cleaned up tennis, but it would’ve been fun seeing a healthy version of him contending for slams. Him, Delpo, Nishikori, and Nick are the biggest what ifs for me of the last ten years

Not even one "could"!? I'm disappointed.

You know, we fondly hype all the coulda woulda shoulda’s on this forum, it’s what we do, but I’m not sure any are quite as ridiculously over the top as Dominic Thiem.

I think Roland Garros ‘19, mentally outperforming Djokovic in the wind, that (and the first two sets of the final that followed) was basically the highlight of his career.

He’s this guy who would play amazing tennis (Nadal AO 2020, those two Djokovic WTF matches, etc.) until he’d get to finals, and then… He was like a new age Soderling in that way.

His collapse in the 2020 Aussie Open Final was heinous, making Tsitsipas look mentally strong in the 2019 WTF Final was worse, and even the major he stumbled ass backward into not losing, I mean how bad did Zverev have to be in order for him to get away with it? And then what happened? He went to Roland Garros and he was TIRED? What?!

He didn’t have the nerve to accomplish anymore more than he did, no matter how nice his game was to watch. If he had stayed healthy in 2021 I feel like the 3 main Next Gen guys were all going to pass him by.

I disagree, i think once he finally got over the mental hurdle of winning a slam his game was destined to take off from there (as it started to in 2020 ATP Finals), injuries and bad luck stopped him from becoming an ATG

This is an awfully bold claim about a player who lost almost all of his motivation after winning a single slam.
