Jane Eyre, but The Scarlet Letter is a great novel. I have a soft spot for the gothic Brontë sisters, and think Emily was particularly brilliant. The sisters had really creative and somewhat tragic lives in terms of health and early deaths, but great lives in terms of what they accomplished.

Surfer's stomp dance?
Back in the early 1960s the infamous local dance, “the Surfer Stomp,” was born. This came about with the birth of the hard-edged instrumental “surf music” sound. A few clubs sprung up where the bands that would perform this kind of music would play and “Surfer Stomps” would happen on most Friday and Saturday nights. The most popular and famous of these clubs was the Rendezvous Ballroom on the Balboa Peninsula. This is where the legendary Dick “King of the Surf Guitar” Dale exploded into music stardom. Before long other venues opened their doors to Stomps of their own.
