This Sucks! Got DQ'd by "Residency Rule'

My team has one match left tomorrow - we win and we probably qualify for sectionals.

But I just found out the day before my team's match that I got DQ'd due to the "Residency Rule".

Our section has a rule that 50% of the team must reside within the local league area. Our team has 17 players, with 8 living within the league area, and 9 in the neighboring league area.

I was the one who got DQ'd because I was the last person added to the team. But I just read the rules, and it doesn't specify anywhere the order in which players must be removed in order to comply with the rule.

What sucks is that I'm one the strongest players on the team. It seems to me that the rules should allow us to remove a weaker player from the team instead. But apparently, opposing captains lobbied to have the removal order for the NTRP 50% rule (where players must be removed in reverse order of addition to the team) applied to the residency rule. That way they get me bumped instead of the scrub who signed up the same day as me (hours before), greatly reducing my team's chances of making it to sectionals.

Bummer.

Why not just play in your area's league? With your SW2, you should be able to beat anyone!

I also play on a team in my league area. But the one match I missed due to a vacation commitment, my team lost 5-0. That team finished with an 8-2 record and came up short of qualifying for sectionals by 1 individual match. That sucks too. I feel like Amare Stoudemire right now.

why was this rule not caught before by the LLC? kinda sucks that someone fell asleep at the wheel whether it was you, your captain, or the LLC. Guess rules are rules.

Someone should have verified residences long ago trav, and removed the low man on the totem pole immediately. But consider yourself a little lucky. Our local league rules allow only one person per team outside the league area, and we are limited to only 14 players per team.:-(

Man that is tough local rule, guess that explains why Waco is lucky to have more than 1-2 4.5 teams.
I do like the 14 man limit, that is what they use here in AR, good thing no residence here as I have 8 players who are more than 90 minutes from the local league zone.

Hi, guys. What exactly is the definition of the "league area"? Is there a link that defines it?

Yeah, your captain was the one who dropped the ball. He should have recognized this rule earlier and removed a weaker player from the roster before you got DQ'd. I guess them's the rules...

Each state (or district) defines the boundaries for the local leagues. Generally geographic proximity helps define it as each team has to travel equally across the local league. In higher or beginner divisions a local league may only have one team. At that point, they may team with other local leagues to determine their district representative or literally play their local league at districts.
