This whole 40-15 thing is a bit out of control lol....

3-0 against a baseline grinder HC specialist on his favorite surface isn’t a good look. I don’t care how old he is. He outplayed Novak for the whole match and I pretty much accepted defeat by the third set.

Novak didn’t though.
I think Novak was bewildered by Fed's resilience in that 5th set. He served for 4-2, and apart from a double fault at 30-15, he didn't much wrong losing back his serve.

Idem when he got broken at 7-7.

His tactic from the start was to push back and wait for the old man to cave in from fatigue, and it didn't work. How could 38 year old Fed be so present physically after +4 hours of play ?

Mystery !
His plan was backfiring miserably. And the crowd clamored for his blood.

When Fed reached 40-15, Novak had just about enough from both the crowd and his opponent, and couldn't wait to get off the court. He had given everything and still he was facing imminent defeat.

And then it happened.

Like in an old Danny Kaye movie, from one split second to the next, Fed morphed into another person.

He chocked at last.

As others members wrote afterwards, "I have feeling even Djokovic was thinking: Man, WTF is wrong with you?"

I don't like saying that Federer ruined his legacy with 40-15. He played really amazing for the 38 year old man.

But I also don't like to read bunch of excuses for that loss. The man had match points on his serve. It's only his fault that he lost.
Serving 8-7 in the fifth , second serve on both championship points against Novak? Far from "it's only his fault"

Furthermore how quick do we forget the first 4 or so service games from Fed in the fifth. His service games were under absolute bombardment!! How he only gave up 1 break of serve to then break twice!

Fed should've lost 6-4 in the fifth.

Had a break point @ 11-11 too!

It's just one of those matches that both guys threw away & whomever lost the other fanbase would cry foul with "choke".

He really should have taken a sec, slowed down, and POPPED an ace man. Especially after losing the first MP and with the history he has with Djokovic. Id tell myself idc what happens in this rally im WINNING IT. Serena said once when she had MPs for slams she'd tell herself, no matter what im NOT missing a shot in this rally. You can tell Djokovic thinks the same thing when he's down MPs and when he has them.
Bad move for an inferior baseliner to try not to miss against Novak. I enjoyed that Fed stuck to his usual of serving quick , then net rushing etc.

To out-rally Djoker Championship Point up?

Not happening ...

Djokovic was a big favorite to win the final against an much older player. I don’t know why we need to denigrate Federer’s mental strength because he lost as expected. It is very difficult for a lower ranked player to beat the top seed and defending champion even when they have a match point unless the champion makes an error - no surprise that Federer made an UFE on the 1st MP and Novak hit a great shot on the next one.

Djokovic expected to win, Federer was hoping to win and expected to lose - sports usually turns out exactly as the pre-match confidence level indicates. Fed’s fans wanted him to somehow magically feel confident against Djokovic on MP because they think he is a Superman, but he is just another lower-seeded tennis player who couldn‘t win the point that matters against the top-seeded player. Happens all the time at your neighborhood tennis court and happens on Wimbledon center court also.

Let’s give credit to Federer for taking advantage of Djokovic’s weird passiveness and winning two sets easily while keeping the other three sets close. That was way better than 90% of tennis fans likely expected before the match started considering that Djokovic had won 3 out of the previous 4 Slams and beaten Federer in their last 3 Slam finals.

This applies to 95% of challengers.

But it cannot apply if you were yourself the nr 1 seed and lost MP to the exact same player in the near past.

That's the tragedy here: Fed has no excuse vs Novak.

Jokes about haters aside,

don't you agree Federer seems totally out of touch with reality when he organizes tennis exhibition celebrities events with Bill Gates ?

Right now the whole world is in turmoil because the shenanigans involving this individual, but privileged Fed, living inside his ivory tower with his pharmaceutical parents somehow just couldn't see it coming.

and by the way, can I ask your opinion on the Adria Tour and the lack of any precaution measures if we are discussing tennis exhibitions that are totally out of touch with reality?
together with celebrations in a night club without masks
together with trying fleeing Croatia without wairuz test
and many other things

Sorry, i won't go any further on the COVID situation, mods would erase this thread in a second.

I'll just say Gates isn't exactly the most popular person in the world right now, and neither was he when Fed got the idea in february last year of playing doubles with him and then dragged Rafa into it.

well, Novak isn't the most popular person in the world neither
and isn't the smartest person by a long mile

yet, this doesn't prevent you to try to downplay Fed's achievements, even if you fail miserably time after time after time

That includes cheating retirement or not paying taxes, is so was his desire.
Nole devotee, you made 8 mistakes while trying to spell Djokovic.
Fed is resident of Switzerland, same country as his citizenship.
Rafa is resident of Spain, same country as his citizenship.

Only Nole out of Big 3 is resident of ZERO Tax jurisdiction.

That's a lie, he can't do anything he wants. He cant beat Djokovic in a Wimbledon final, and this is probably his biggest desire.
So, stop saying Fed has any privilege. He gets destroyed by Djokodal like the rest of them.

Fed has got you fooled like the rest of them.

It was his intention since the start of the match to reach MP in the last set, just to prove to the world he could do it if he so wanted it. He then intentionally lost the match in the most dramatic fashion, and let fans argue between themselves about his greatness.

Everything is now planned for his triomphal Wimbledon return in 2022, with 2 bionic knees, where he will trounce the demoralized opposition for a new historic win destined to cast away all those fans who lost faith in his undeniable divinity.

Embrace , rejoice at once, as for truth he will live and be reborn again.

That's a good point. Being able to give match points away and getting away with it is proof of his privileage. No matter what he does, he will always be considered the goat.

No wonder you hate elitism. But, let's not get confused, it's not like Rafa and Nole are some poor farmers who starved as children, most top pros are elitists.

Same way that Trump folks think Trump is for the working class fighting those evil elitist corporate democrats. No, lol idiots, he is one of them. He was always a democrat. He supported Hillary, was at her wedding and put money to her campaign. Damn people can be dense :).

Same as you thinking only Fed and his fans are elitists lol.

Actually, it's a fact Nole's family was broke most of the time (quite common knowledge) plus they had to go through their town being bombarded by Nato.

Can anyone imagine for a split second what goes through your head as a child when you're in 1999 and the civilized world has sent planes hoping to kill you and your countrymen through no fault of your own ? The explosions right around you in the night ?

Around that time, Fed was worrying about the size of his nose and whether turning blonde was more fashionable.

In reality, i love Fed.

My mission was to secretly infiltrate the Rafa/Nole online fan organization ruling these boards and to begin destroy it insidiously from the inside.

I'm just halfway home.

The great Federer can't out-rally Djokovic?
Not @ an age where he should've been retired vs a 6 year younger Novak @ his second best slam.

Furthermore we all know that Djoker is a beast from the baseline.

Think of it like this ...

Simulate 1000 points that are played from a neutral starting point where both DjokeRer are forced to stick to the baseline. No forecourt rushing or dropshots.
Just pure baseline ball-bashing with the aim of 'not-to-miss'

Out of those 1000 points do you really think Fed would win more than 500?

Be honest! :p

Yeah, Sampras also made the same mistake as @terribleIVAN by saying Federer can win as many Wimbledon titles as he wants. Djokovic didn't take too kindly to that comment as we found in those Wimbledon finals against Federer :)

You're hilarious! Epic even!

Uhm , who wins out in the end between these two monsters?

I remember Jason walking out of the ocean holding Freddy's head , then the camera zoomed in & Freddy winked @ the end of one of their movies together lol.
Lol thanks :D
I would say Jason won the fight, but Freddy would have won the war without all the interference from those teens :p They helped Jason a lot bc at least they could get away from him, but Freddy would have f'd them up in their dreams lol. They both left alive at the end of the movie though, Freddy would basically go dormant for a bit until he had enough fear again to get back to the dream world 8-B

So now someone who used to be considered the GOAT can’t be expected to win the most important rally of his career because he’s 5 years older (and in spite of the fact he had been doing it all match)? Lol the level of mental gymnastics some Fed fans have resorted to in an attempt to excuse that inexcusable choke is just sad.
