Thomas Berdych booed by Melbourne crowd!!!!!

Rookie
Almagro v Berdych great great great match.
Almagro smacks ball and hits Berdych in arm.
Berdych refuses to shake hands after match!!
Crowd goes wild and boos Berdych non stop.
Berdych post match interview still believes Almagro was in wrong.
Thomas Berdych you were in the wrong you ass!!!!

Better than a fake like Agassi who would behave disgracefully on and off the court but would blow kisses and suck up to the crowd in interviews.

Berdych doesn't like Almagro and he doesn't have to shake his hand if he doesn't want to.

Almagro did have other options, but he was on the run towards his right so a cross court would have been difficult, and down the line could have been anticipated by Berdych. I don't think there was a clear aggressive intent there.

I don't think options comes into it. It's within the rules, and it was a tough fh anyway. Berdych not only lacks class he's also a wimp hitting the deck like he was shot.

Since the match was really for $$$, then it counts and nothing is wrong with hitting someone. He should have ducked.

btw...I think berdych is a closet gay.

even your half way decent hacker club player(me)lol would have tried to put a racquet on it. you come to the net, youve gotta be ready for it all. period.

Your post and your username definitely don't match. Berdych is a pro and he should act like one! Almagro hit a shot that is well within the rules of the game and Berdych is acting like a large child.

I think everybody needs to calm down:

They were both in the wrong a little bit, Almagro shouldn't have hit Tomas and Tomas shouldn't have refused to shake his hand. Its over now so let's stop with the "Berdych Bashing"

Um, Tomas, your racket is what you use to protect yourself when a ball comes at you.

Don't blame almagro for making the best shot he could given the situation, you still held serve.

Man up, you rather get beamed with a 90+mph fastball instead?

Man up, shake hands, if you're going to be a pro at least show the world your a sportsman. Otherwise step down.

Berdych should have sang to Almungo "I Wanna Know...."

Berdy is playing great though, awesome game when he is on.

What a stupid fool Berdych is . Firstly the Aussies are outdoor very sporty people with ground rules about what is right and wrong. Secondly who hasn't been hit with a hard ball while playing tennis. He has an attitude problem and this isn't his first time he has annoyed a crowd. He should grow up

Big deal he got hit by a tennis ball, he is a big wimp if that hurt him, it is a legitimate shot, if he is afraid of getting hit, stay away from the net.

I don't see how Almagro was in the wrong at all.

Since there's no rule saying you have to shake hands with your opponents after the match concluded, it's 100 % fine.

I'm 100 % with Berdych here.

Berdych doesn't like Almagro and he doesn't have to shake his hand if he doesn't want to.

"he doesn't have to shake hand if he doesn't want to". He doesn't need to do anything if he doesn't want to, but tennis is a gentlemans game, he should have shake his hand. Berdych is an a-hole.

wow what a d0uche. if you come to net, be ready for the ball to come at you. its not like almagro was necessarily trying to hit him.

What the heck? I just watched the clip on youtube...Almagro immediately came up to the net and put his hand up to apologize. Why didn't Berdych shake his hand?

Can't you see the hypocrisy, let's reverse your quote

"he can hit him at the net if he wants". He doesn't need to do anything if he doesn't want to, but tennis is a gentlemans game, he shouldn't have hit him at the net. Almagro is an a-hole.

I am disappointed by Tomas, I am hoping Nadal beats his dirty ass and sends him packing. The guy should appologize to Almagro and fans.

While playing a match, specially an important one like this, it is war, there are no friends, and nobody is there to make friends. Almagro did his best to win the point, and that is it. He played within the rules, and berdych should show some respect.

I don't know Oddjack, I can't trust what Almagro does. Any other player I think Tomas would have been ok.

Anyways, I hope Tomas stay the course. His game is enthralling when he is on. This will be a tough one for Nadal.

Nothing wrong with that shot at all. He needs to stop being a whiney Czech (like a lot of them are) and play tennis. How many times did Lendl peg people? If you're at the net and hit a bad volley like he did, it'll happen. You're playing tennis, if you don't wanna be hit with a ball then don't play.

I saw the video and it wasn't intentional by Almagro and he apologized, case closed.

See it's not about Almagro at all, it's about tennis and sport in general. Tomas damaged himself more by what he did than Almagro did even if on purpose.

Berdych was right not to shake his hand after such an unsportsmanlike shot.
Boo, Almagro!

Such a stupid comment.
I'm guessing that since you are from Montreal, u have seen Stanley Cup playoffs. Those hockey players do everything they can to win games, and that includes hitting other player, at point that sometimes could injure them seriously in such a way that their careers could be over. Even if they are friends off the rink. At the end of a series THEY ALL SHAKE HANDS.
So for Berdych not to shake hands because Almagro hit him with a fluffy yellow ball, that won't even bruise him, that's lack of respect.

Can't be that hard up if she can afford a ticket.

Plenty of CUBs in Australia.

Birdshit was a sook for not shaking hands, but the crowd reaction was classless. A few jeers were probably deserved but the post match interview was completely drowned out by booing.

One thing that I'm thinking is that, maybe there is something else between them that we don't know. I just think that it was an extreme action by Berdych if it was just because of getting hit by a tennis ball.

A few weeks ago I played a doubles tournament, during the tournament I hit two guys, and got hit once. It was very competitive, nobody wanted to lose. They were friends, nobody cried, and we all had a big laugh afterwards.

To all these macho guys who say win at all costs, they're probably the same ones decrying Tomic's lack of sportsmanship.

I'm also guessing that if you got crunched like Berdych, you'd be crying to your mamas.

Don't think Berdych would like cricket very much.

Indeed! As a cricket fan, we've seen lots of this sort of stuff over the years! You can end up in hospital playing cricket, I still remember the bruise I got on my right arm playing cricket as a teenager going for a pull shot and missing!

But I was going to say that I didn't see the incident yet but surely Berdych's response is not very good! Is it a man's sport, these things happen, what would he have done if he played during the days of Ivan Lendl?

A handshake at the end of a match signifies that you appreciated the game and respect your opponent, no matter what happened during the match.

That Berdych refused to do so left a bad taste in my mouth and tells us that he just can't let bygones be bygones.

TOMAS BERDYCH: I mean, what was happen ‑‑ this is just once I'm gonna talk about it and that's it. Probably whoever played the tennis knows that the court is pretty big, and you always have some space to put the ball in. And not even if you stand each other like three or four meters close to the guy, just try to hit it straight to your face, you know. I was just able and lucky to somehow fell down. Just hit me in the arm, and that's it, you know.

Actually, this is not the way how tennis is. Even if you have this point, you always have enough space to where to put the ball and not actually try to hit the other guy.

Q. So you think it was intentional, him hitting you, then?

TOMAS BERDYCH: Yeah, could be. I don't know why. You normally could go for it, yeah, so it's just probably maybe too emotions. I don't know.

Q. But he said sorry on the court.

TOMAS BERDYCH: You think is this enough to apologize?
