WTH was that? 4.0 league practice?
Watched 15 seconds. Looks to be prepping for the ball way too early.
Pros:
- Good stamina
- Consistent in executing his strokes
- Good movement.
Cons:
- No power whatsoever. When he was playing out points the coach was hitting moonballs that he should have been able to tee off on with shoulder height forehands. Instead he executed his pushing forehand.
- Refusal to grip the throat of the racket during FH prep was driving me insane.
- BH was awkward. He couldn't hit it without planting his right foot in closed stance at the last moment. Also his takeback wasn't getting high enough (for disguised slices) or low enough after that (for topspin).
- Serve worked well enough and has a ton of potential but the mechanics are huge mess right now.
Needs to:
- close his racket face a few degrees on his forehand and hit harder.
- watch vids of Djoker/Murray hitting slowmo BHs.
- Hire a coach to fix his serve.
That sounds about right. NAIA is more like D2/3, not D1, and NJCAA can be all over the place. He'd be hard pressed to get a scholarship offer at any serious D1 school, but whatever, if he's just looking to play competitively at some level in college, he can certainly do that. In USTA men's league, that translates to a good 4.5 level.Well he has in fact recieved numerous offers including NAIA and some of the best NJCAA D1 colleges so he cannot be that bad![]()
