Before you accuse me of being a fair weather friend, I'm just so frustrated at Federer, tired of getting my hopes up, making fun bets based on what should be, only to NOT see him show up.

The Murray of Friday played to 100% of his ability, and would have beat Djokovich, Djokovich didn't do much wrong or right, good serve, but that's it, Murray would have wiped him out. Federer, when he played Murray played not his 100% best, but his 100% best of what he's capable now, have you forgot the match? Federer would chase a ball 5 feet off court only to do a cross court right to the line, his play was not human, if was almost like Federer '04-'07, what he did was play free, he lost many points to Murray, but instead of shrinking back like he did today he just kept going, the result was Federer the better player and the winner in one of the highest quality tennis matches I've seen.

So I tell everyone Federer will win easy this time, he's in shape, playing free and confident, and has finally dialed in the power of his new racquet. What happens? Federer of all people freeze! I mean how tentative can he play? Double faults, shots to the net over and over, shots 3 feet wide consistently, and don't tell me Djokovich forced him into that, I know tennis his body just wasn't there, how many times was he off balance?

I'm telling you, there are two Federer's, the one that plays wild and free, and the one who freezes up, plays tentative, it's just SO FRUSTRATING, the Federer who played Murray would have blown Djokovich off the court, and that's no knock on Djokovich, He's an awesome player, but that Fed no one can beat, I mean what great shot did you see? Lastly when Federer freezes, he'll think he's playing it safe, and baseline with a baseliner. I've always said if you allow Djokovich to stay on the baseline and dictate, there's not a player in the world who can be him, so Fed freezes and baselines with a baseliner, then wonders why he's not winning.

Federer, even with off the chart unforced error numbers was relatively even out of the shoot, then just fell apart, you could see it on his demeanor. Someone on this forum said Federer is a "Extremely talented front runner", I have to agree, he doesn't always employ the best strategy, staying close against Cilic at US Open last year and getting blown away, and by the way these announcers are not the smartest people in the world, I told you McEnroe was a joke, calling Nadal the greatest after a victory, then changing his mind to Federer after his victory over Murray, you have to dismiss these "experts". Fed, and they teach us this as kids if we serve and volley which I did as a kid, the rule is simple; NEVER go forward unless your opponent is off balance and doesn't have time. Federer amazes me his lack of technical skills, he'll hit a shot to Djokoviches backhand, go straight to net and wonder why the ball is passing him, especially these days you only go forward when you put your opponent in a bad position so he can't pass you.

I'm so frustrated, the Federer of Friday was asleep today, if you doubt watch it. I mean hitting shots, one after another into the net, 3 feet wide, double faults, Fed was scared. Against Murray, that kind of go for it I don't care if I get passed play would have blew Novak off the court, Novak can't handle being thrown out of his comfort zone as Wawrinka, a player not as good as Federer but more mentally tough can attest, on Friday Federer was getting past, he didn't care he just went for it, nothing but that type of effort is going to get past Djokovich, and this is no hit piece on Djokovich, he's a great modern day slow court player, he should have lost today but he didn't have an opponent.

Cool story bro.

If you don't play your best in the final you deserve to lose, no shame in that.
It happens. No one cares what you did in the SF if you can't back it up in a final. As a Murray fan I know only too well! We accept things and move on.

Federer fans are head cases, your player does not 'deserve' a grand slam simply because he is Roger Federer.

Fed didnt freeze at all, he played good solid tennis. Djokovic is the best defender in the game today, he forces you to hit for smaller and smaller windows, and even then he gets some back. Psychologically you start to think you need to paint lines, and the errors follow. Great defense forcing high risk offense into errors, we've seem it in many sports before.

So, how much did you lose today ?

Let's face it, Roger was going up against the greatest player of all time. Unless Nadal comes back, and I don't see that happening. The Gluten free guy is unreal. His return game is like a video game. It just doesn't seem possible to return like Novak does.

Good Lord that was painful to read. He's not the same player with the same confidence, consistency or movement he had in 2004-2009+. Just enjoy how well he's playing at 34, that he still loves to play and that occasionally we get glimpses of what once was (such as Friday).

He lost, sorry. He tries but he got nervous and tight, which made it harder to read serves and groundstrokes, and a whole host of other problems.

Why put so much idolization into one person, celebrity, or sports person? Fine don't root for him anymore, dear lord.

How fickle some of these Fed fans are. They were fine when Fed was wiping the floor with guys in GS finals for years. Now that it's become a struggle, they're checking out. Good riddance.

I count...let's see...one Federer fan jumping off the bandwagon. Might want to slow down a bit there.

The reason why Roger missed all those shots is because he knows that he has to go for clean winners against Novak and he did take the risk,it just didnt pay off,the risk is too big

Federer fans with half a brain should jump right onto the winning train that is Novak Djokovic. It's easy no?

Pathetic gloryhunting attitudes of the highest order. Much like the biased Wimbledon crowd or crazy Shanghai crowd who would kiss Roger's backside after every shot.

I was disappointed but it is what it is. I will still support him till the end and trust me, tennis is a very hard sport to play and I respect the heck out of both Roger and Novak. Roger making the final should still be celebrated at this age.

OP, it is insane if you expect Fed to perform at 34 what he did at 26 and 27.

It needed an upset of epic proportions for Fed to beat both Murray and Novak here.

You should be happy he came more than half way here. They don't give majors for past laurels

Yeah, we can't wait to follow something you endorse, lol. Moran

Some people here seem to have prioritized tennis well over working or studying.

It's just a game, OP.

yeah, federer lost. but it's just a game as you said. will djoker be more consistent in winning more slams from now on?
now is the time to shine.

Big deal, what´s new? It´s not as if Federer played any different in the past 5-6 years. Even back then he was struggling with players who could go with him toe to toe at times. Federer has never been as mentally strong as people want him to be. Sure when Djokovic, Roddick or Murray were choking it was because "Federer was so mentally strong" but once Nadal became a threat and Djokovic, Murray and even Tsonga became more mature it was Federer who struggled mentally. And I think you shouldn´t over estimate his victory over Murray too much, even though he played well. Murray is just on of those guys who are hyped as hell just because he won Wimbledon once. Why is he even considered to be in the "big 4"? He has never been No. 1 and is like 7 slams away from Djokovic, let alone Fedal. Some people here need to wake up.

First of all, can we stop making this a thing about Fed fans, guys?

More on topic: I honestly couldn't care less who jumps off which fan base, but if this is the reasoning, then Fed's success is all that mattered to the individual and I don't consider a person who prioritizes success a fan of a certain player.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

If I had a quarter (or .35) I'd give it to you so that you could call someone who cares. I think I hear your mom calling you to come eat dinner. You better go skippie. You know you're supposed to at least be 18yo to get on her, right?

I've always been a Fed fan but i must admit that for many of his wins in his prime, his opponents would just choke. Fed could just stick around and they'd fumble over themselves and he would win. He's never been one to come from behind against equal talent. Usually a front runner and the favorite. Of course he's older now, but he now has to go out and beat guys who are better or equally talented as he is at this point in his career. He used to have the Borg aura where guys had lost the match before they even walked on the court. That Fed mystique and aura is gone with his youth. I think Wawrinka would have had a better chance at beating the Joker today. Fed really does not believe he can beat the Joker. You can see it in his eyes and in his demeanor. That doubt. Stan would play as if he had nothing to lose. So basically Stan really blew it by losing the Gasquet as we all knew the Joker would straight set him!!!

Fed being #2 and reaching slam finals at this age has obviously made some fans very spoiled. "Tired of getting my hopes up". All of a sudden you're forgetting the number of slams he won in merely six/seven years' time? I'm sure he's satisfied your hopes and desires plenty times already. 17 times to be exact, more than any other player could manage for their fans. You need to stop whining and get some sun or something. Nobody wins slams at this age (not counting Serena and her playground), be happy he's even getting himself into positions where's he's got a chance. I sure know I am.

Well OK then, it's not like anyone has a gun to your head to watch/root for Fed. I've always found these sort of announcements strange.

If it's about winning then yes he's not gonna be doing that much anymore for a variety of reasons but if it's about tennis, he can still produce magic at times and make this game look easy which is why I'm still a fan.

I think this also depends on whether you started being his fan in his dominant years or before. When I first started liking his game I thought he'd win 1-2 slams at most so I'm more than fine with him having 17 and still being in the mix at 34 (of course I'd still like him to have that one last run to the title but if it happens, it happens).

Many talented players that are/were as great to watch (Nalbandian, Rios) never fulfilled 1/10 of their potential because they weren't fully dedicated to the game, Fed gave it as good as he could, tried his best and ended up being one of the best, can't ask for a lot more than that.

YOU obviously cared. Don´t worry kid, one day you will learn how things work out. ^^
Dude, Fed is a RICH pouty kid grown up, Novak is an RICH arrogant a--hole. They met on a tennis court and the RICH a--hole won. The other RICH one didn't. So they both got a little RICHER and went off to their RICH lives. So what was your question?

I believe the word you're looking for is 'moron'. Learn to type my friend ;)

Seriously get a grip, Djokovic was the better player in the final. Deal with it and move on.

OP, focus on his good days and enjoy the talent! It's amazing to see 34yo do what he did in that Murray semi.

Djokovic was the favorite and deserved the win. Too bad if you lost your money, it's your own fault!

Dude you should be proud of Federer. Stop focusing on whether he gets 18, and celebrate what's he's currently doing at 34 years of age.

Op, I could make a highlight reel of 'SublimeTennis' even for today's match of Federer.

Some of those shots were jaw dropping and I can assure his opponents cannot do in a thousand years. That is enough as a fan for me at this point.

Please do justice for your username.

Well, at least we have something to throw at people who protest "weak era".

34 year old Federer beat prime/peak Murray on grass in straights..

Yes, such a coincidence that the other federer you are talking about shows up just when Djokovic is on the other side of the net, while the other federer who was cruising through his 6 matches before the final magically disappears just when it is time to play Novak.

Such a coincidence right?

If you watch the stats, you can see that Federer actually was good today. But an onfire novak showed up seeking vengance for his FO loss.

Federer at his absolute best would have beaten Novak in 4, just like he did in 2012.

But congrats to Novak for his first multi slam year since 2011.

My eyes glazed over once I read "The Murray of Friday played to 100% of his ability, and would have beat Djokovich." In view of the fact that Novak has won 8 straight times against him, that statement isn't exactly dripping with logic. That second serve is a joke much of the time, and he's not going anywhere until and unless he improves it-which I doubt will happen. Furthermore, Novak is the best returner of service in the game, while Andy saw 20 aces whizz by him. That's just the way it is.

I've identified the point where everyone on this forum aside from really really REALLY butthurt Fed fans will stop reading just like I did. I see you went on to vomit several more walls of text that no one will read, Nice!

I think they have very selected memory or amnesia. If Murray had played 100% of his capability, he wouldn't have had his serve hardly broken at all. Remember AO '13 SF? Murray was serving bombs and Federer hardly got a look in until Andy started clowning causing the match to go to 5.

Don't forget one very important thing here......... Fed most definitely couldn't give a rat's backside what you think. He still loves to play the game, plays as hard as he can on any given day, and unquestionably wants to keep winning majors, so whether you're through with him or not really doesn't mean a whole lot, at least not to anyone but you. Just sayin.

Beat it OP...the man's 34 and ranked #2...there's only one player better than him at this point and Fed lost to him today...no shame in that, especially given how close the match was early on. Fed doesn't need fair weather fans like you to validate his career. Take a walk over to the Nadal camp and see how that feels...
