Tie off crosses on crosses?

I was looking at pictures of pro rackets on priority 1 website and they seem to tie off crosses on top and bottom on a cross string instead of a main hole. When most of us string we either tie off crosses on mains or tie off on mains on the top and crosses for the end. Does this differ anyway to how most of us string? I just curious.

It depends on the stick. Some tie off the crosses on the mains others on the crosses. I normally go by what the mfg says in there string tie offs and or stringers digest. I know that isn't much help.

also, I think priority one uses starting clamps, and if following the pattern, the crosses are sometimes tied off on other crosses.

There are some patterns that call for that, depends on the racquet, just like wao said.I go by the USRSA digest.
I normally use a starting clamp for the start of crosses on all my 2 piece string jobs. It is easier on the strings,(especially for gut and fine multis.), and all the knots are uniform as well. The people that went to the stringers symposium last Oct. said that the USRSA rep said that the starting clamp method of starting crosses will be the standard, and that starting knots will be a thing of the past.

ya my flexpoint prestige racket is clearly like the pros, do no why this is relevant, because on your racket their proboally is not another spot to tie it off.

sounds fine to me. I hardly ever use a starting knot.

I usually just tie the knot in whenever hole it fit in closest to the string exit and never had trouble. Can someone point me what can be wrong with that ?

Same here. There's nothing wrong with it.

The tie-off grommet is usually wider/more flared and pretty obvious.

Otherwise I just look into the hole and identify one that is close, in proximity, with sufficient space for an additional string.

Tie-ing off a cross at the bottom on another cross is not uncommon. Wilson, Babolat and Prince are among those that tend to do this.

Tie-off a cross on a cross at the top is different. AFAIK only the Babolat Pure Controls had to do this and you had to have starting clamp to do this. But generally if you are tie-ing off the cross on a cross at the top you'll have to enlarge a hole.

I'll do this when I feel the distance to the standard tie-off at the top is, in my opinion, too long. Then I'll open up the second cross hole to accomodate the tie-off string.

Just did a Pure Drive and saw a tie off on a cross for the first time. Really threw me, as I checked the holes and saw the enlarged one to tie off to a cross. Completely disbelieved what I was seeing and had to do a bit of internet research before I tied off the bottom cross onto another cross. (When the racket was given to me it was done as 1-piece and I now see why that was the case).

Some players will specifically request certain tie off holes, when tying a knot it will add additional pressure and weaken the anchor string. As a Main string is generally more important than a cross string, it is preferred for the cross sting to break (but having said that I have never seen a string break at the knot, only from a damaged grommet tie off hole than should have been replaced previously).
