(retired soon after winning RG at 34, barely played slam TB: 1-2 record)

(played few majors after 1970, not telling much besides struggling)

Of course, 1970s players are disadvantaged in this comparison due to fewer TB opportunities, whereas modern players are somewhat advantaged due to service holds being higher than ever, hence more reason and opportunity to practice TB skills. Still this tells us something. Bots are up, clay golems are down. Early Noel was a tiebreak wizard, PETE was equally efficient at clutchbotting both at peak and late career bot phrase, Stan jumped to an excellent slam TB ratio in his belated prime, etc. Kuerten was the only multiple slam champ (excluding early 70s guys) with negative career TB percentage in slams, neato.

The original incentive was to show that Thiem winning the titlebreaker was basically supposed to happen given his lovely streak. He's in great company, could even realistically get to 2nd place in this list though odds are low I reckon. An important indicator of his mental improvement - would love to see this continue as a Wawrinka-like jump in tiebreakery.

I'm very impressed. I had a tiebreak losing streak in high school that was comprised of every tiebreak I ever played in high school (Except for a super tiebreak I once played cuz the coaches wanted to leave and didn't want us to play a full set)

Expect GOatdick to be higher.

It's a good streak, but I'd like to see him not getting into TBs to begin with rather than having to clutch them out. Many of them were extremely close and he seemed like the better player by a good margin in only a couple of them.

He's been clutch, I admit, but TBs depend on who's on the other side of the net, if they're able to play well on the important points. Plus, any stat that can be inflated by losing more games isn't one I prize too highly. Similarly to how I don't think this streak for Djokovic is really worth much (nice trivia, somewhat impressive), Thiem's isn't worth anything.

Novak's streak is very impressive but even more shocking is that Ivanisevic has a 9 TB losing streak. You'd think he'd have won at least a couple by simply hitting all serves with full power, first and second
