TIFU arguing with a work colleague about pickleball

Legend
So I was at a work dinner with about six co-workers. One of them started talking about going to a pickleball tournament that was here last week. I held my tongue and just smiled and listened. Then another colleague said that there was an issue in her neighborhood because some pickleball players wanted to take over the tennis courts but "the entitled tennis players" got upset and pushed back against that. I really shoud have kept quiet, this woman is much younger than I am and has only been working here a few years. Instead I said "Ok let's talk about 'entitlement' and you can explain to me why pickleball players are entitled to take over tennis courts." There was an awkward silence and she didn't say anything, a few other people made some jokes and tried to change to the subject. I definitely need to learn to be quiet in these situations.

Drive the Pickleball players away.

We have a newbie pickleball player that came from tennis … I told him a year from now he will still hate the plastic ball that does not bounce.

If you are a tennis player that wants to annoy pickleballers … just keep bouncing tennis ball off tennis racquet strings near the court.

“That’s not a ball … this is a ball“ :p

Our indoor Lifetime pickleball courts are Acrylic over the basketball wood floor. Today I reached as high as I could and dropped the wiffle … only bounced 3-4” above my knee.

Pickleball balls typically have a 40% bounce where tennis balls bounce closer to 55% of their drop height

everyone should be mad about mini tennis
Mini-tennis has made me a much better athlete than tennis, basketball, baseball, surfing, soccer/football, curling, billards, golf, darts, or fishing ever did. Faster reaction time and speed are needed since the ball is only coming from 10 feet away. Point for point, mini-tennis requires more skill than tennis.

I will think of you as mini-Monfils.

One of the places where I play is just the basketball court with Pickle lines

His baiting worked … 1.4 responses including Kyrgios.
He is correct.

Skill-wise, table tennis > pickleball > tennis > badminton.

Endurance-wise, badminton > tennis > pickleball > table tennis.

Strength-wise, tennis > pickleball > badminton > table tennis.

He is correct.

Skill-wise, table tennis > pickleball > tennis > badminton.

Endurance-wise, badminton > tennis > pickleball > table tennis.

Strength-wise, tennis > pickleball > badminton > table tennis.

The generic “who has/is the best athletes” never worked

For example:

Who was the better athlete at their peak?

- Djokovic
- Federer
- Monfils
- Michael Jordan
- Lebron James
- Messi
- Usain Bolt
- {marathon/triathlete}
- Cirque du Soleil

Djok too high on your list because his prime was his mid 30s.

Is your skill ranking for the lowest levels or for the professional game, because the appeal of pickleball is that it's easy to learn and anyone can play in 10 minutes, so that makes no sense. If you're talking about the intricacies of dinking on the pro level it might be debatable (I don't actually how much skill that takes).

Lowest levels

In that case it's ridiculous to say that pickelball takes more skill than tennis.
Not really. The lowest level of tennis player is lower than the lowest level of pickleball. Therefore, pickleball players start out with more skill. Also, it requires extra skill to learn how to hit a ball while looking down at the kitchen line simultaneously to make sure you don’t step over it. In tennis you don’t have to multitask like that.

Starlings have more skill than a hawk flying ... but hawk has more skill on the ground

So you’re saying we tennis players need to make use our talons to stomp on the heads of the pickleballers and tear their heads off before they can fly away?
