Tim Henman believes Novak Djokovic will be able to play at Wimbledon this year even if he remains unvaccinated.

I don’t think a mortality rate of <0.5% merits any lockdowns or vaccination mandates the majority of the UK public have had enough and have decided that it’s time to just accept and live with Covid.
 
When he arrives in the country, detain him and don't let him board a plane or train unless vaccinated. He is free to either play Wimbledon or leave the country--once he gets vaccinated. There is no "right not be vaccinated" in British Common Law or the UN Declaration of Human Rights. Let Serbia whine and *****, what are they gonna do? They're a tiny, insignificant country.

Lol. That’s not how it works here. Thousands of NHS workers refuse to get the vaccine and the government can’t do sh*t about it. When they tried people were prepared to lose their healthcare jobs which would have crippled the NHS in a way Covid never actually did.

I know most people here are vaccinated but I personally know many who aren’t and they are very stubborn about it.

Many British people are also in no hurry to get the booster as you may have seen from the online data, once they knew that even two jabs wasn’t enough they said screw it I’m not getting anymore jabs.

They have to because the travel sector is in ruins. If the entry requirements continue to be so strict these governments will have an even bigger problem with pressure from travel agencies, airports, hotels, cruises and airlines demanding easing. With billions around the world still unvaccinated that’s a massive demographic that you are losing money from.

Even if travel restrictions are eased, there is no guarantee unvaccinated visiting athletes will be allowed to compete. Now that Novak has become vocal about his intent to not take the vaccine, it creates political pressure on countries whether to let him play or not.

I think the pressure from all those companies in the travel sector outweighs anything to do with Djokovic. I know someone working with a massive engine producer for airplanes, the knock on effect of travel restrictions has meant his company has had millions worth of orders cancelled. This isn’t about Djokovic it’s about much more.

The pressure from so many in the travel sector is massive. So much so that even furlough schemes aren’t of any use to them. That just helps employees. How is a furlough scheme going to help a large company which has shut down operations.
 
There's a good chance he will be able to play all slams. There's no longer any kind of justification for keeping vaccine mandates for travel in place. The 4th shot doesn't work, and people are coming up on a year-plus removed from their most recent shot. Meaning they no longer have any effect, so how could it be a requirement for travel? This in addition to the plummeting case and mortality numbers.
 
We didn't become the greatest nation in the world by cowering in the corner. Leave that to our colonies. Great Britain is open for business. Djokovic's business is winning Grand Slams so he's welcome to come to the greatest tennis tournament in the world any time he damn well pleases.

Tim Henman's an idiot, but it is almost certainly true, here in the UK we are entering the stage of the pandemic where we put our fingers in our ears and say lalalala. Operation pretend COVID doesn't exist. Even before there was never any vaccination requirement to enter sport stadiums apart from a few short periods and that didn't apply to players even then so Wimbledon was always going to be an option for Djovak.

I think by this (northern) summer, the UK government will have dropped all pretense of caring about COVID. They always knew they were too weak, in a society with too many chavs in it, to enforce a sound policy.
That's even IF they had wanted to in the first place, which they clearly didn't.

When covid is taken off the emergency list, pharma can sell vaccines and medication for whatever they like. Guess who supports all this antivaxx nonsense? The same people who stupidly fell for the "Big Pharma Created Covid" nonsense are working to enable millionaires to charge us market price for treatment very soon.

You do realise Pfizer and other companies have made a lot of money on their covid vaccines right? They didn't sell them at cost or give them away for free.
Utterly bonkers that you think UK government is giving up on covid because there are too many chavs. They're giving up on it because everyone is sick of it and starting to realise it was completely exaggerated.
 
Realistically speaking, Covid is winding down finally. I hope we can get back to something close to normal soon and this Djokovic-vax saga can end. It’s time to get back to tennis. Tired of hearing about his snowflake “journey”. Hopefully border rules are loosened and he just plays and we get an epic conclusion to his rivalry with Rafa.

The stats and emotive journalism are purposely misleading, not confusing really. Take Australia for example; the COVID hyperbole local news media played prior to the AO this year was despicable. As soon as the GS began, the virus spread slowed down and people stopped dying miraculously. Now, take Denmark for another example; as soon as the country opened up a few days ago, reports began flooding the media that there's a dramatic increase of COVID spread and deaths related to the virus. Seriously, how "confusing" can it be when hospitals routinely label deceased with COVID as the cause of death even when they get heart attacks, die from cancer etc. How do you think doctors play the numbers of the unvaccinated deceased when there are hospitals that do not accept unvaccinated nowadays. Well, not at least in China but some more democtaric nations..... some unvaccinated gents cannot even get health care. Just answering your Wimbledon question and how the rules will be set if powers pay attention to reports.

How "entirely uninformed" can I be when reports from places come that people with heart attacks were included in the COVID count and unvaccinated are refused care? How bad is my reading skill when I read Assies eager beaver journalists' work how bad it is prior to AO 2022 but comparably little about the COVID spread and deaths one week into the tournamnet then? Unlike you, I do not interview docs/nurses in hospitals so the information isn't at the tips of my fingers. Let us know more about your experiences. TTW needs to know ;)

Several family members and friends are nurses and doctors in two different countries. They all say exactly what is reported in reputable news sources: the unvaxxed are unnecessarily filling up the hospitals. Everything else is a sideshow. Also have a family member who is an established journalist at a major paper and writes about this stuff every day, and no one tells her what to write in any way.

Well funny you should talk about facts, a 73yr old with stage 4 pancreatic cancer with time running out, gets marked down as dying from Covid because he tested positive. That’s why these facts are not the whole story. A man on deaths door, Covid positive result arrives conveniently for the stats guys and his cancer is an bc afterthought.

I don’t dispute any of your comments but will add to them my own conversations. I have relatives in another country (subcontinent) and all except 1 is unvaccinated. The vaccinated one is due to travel requirements. When I ask them they all say the same thing Covid is big news in the west, it’s not here. We don’t know anyone in our town who has died from Covid so why bother?

I'd have to see the stats, but at this point the number of hospitalizations and deaths are all that really matter. And that convincingly makes a case for vaccinations. Case counts have always been the least important stat.

Covid is toughest on the weak, no question. But in all demographics, being vaccinated leads to far better outcomes than not. Additionally, if a vaxxed goes into a hospital after a car accident, and tests positive, that's a stat for vaxxed in the hospital - so works both ways.
Almost no healthy vaxxed people are dying or even going to hospital. This is not complicated, except for unvaxxed activists trying to make it so.

But that’s not true though is it? Right now I have Google open with Covid hospitalisations in the UK and I see that hospitalisation peaked recently to the same level as the first peak in 2020.

To be precise people in intensive care for Covid 21k in April 2020 for 7 day average. 19.5k in Jan 2022 for 7 day average.

The Uk is a highly vaccinated population with more than 70% double vaccinated and 56% with a booster. Despite the vaccine program hospitalisations for Covid are almost equal to 2020 levels. So what is your explanation for this?

It's a double standard. These people cry Covid! when an unhealthy person dies with covid. But they don't cry Useless Vaccines! when an unhealthy person who happens to be vaccinated dies of/with covid.

But that’s another lie. It was widely rumoured that 90% of hospitalisations were unvaccinated people but according to the ONS and the BMJ 61% of those in intensive care are unvaxxed. Yes that is disproportionately higher number of unvaccinated in hospitals but they do not account for all. A huge number of vaccinated people are still in hospitals.

So once again you are exaggerating like many others to make your point. Clearly clearly based on the stats from the authorities it’s not that effective.
