Yeah, I agree with all of this, which is why I agree that he won't win Grand Slams until he makes these types of adjustments mentally and tactically to his game. Can he become more of an all-court, problem-solving player instead of one/two-dimensional basher? I don't know. He's a really good ball basher though... one of the best out there, which is why he continues to load up his resume with best-of-three 500's and 1000's. In those situations, he's rarely asked for a Plan B or Plan C. He's young though. He could still add some of those dimensions to his game.
