Time to admit Sascha Zverev is the real thing

Yeah, I agree with all of this, which is why I agree that he won't win Grand Slams until he makes these types of adjustments mentally and tactically to his game. Can he become more of an all-court, problem-solving player instead of one/two-dimensional basher? I don't know. He's a really good ball basher though... one of the best out there, which is why he continues to load up his resume with best-of-three 500's and 1000's. In those situations, he's rarely asked for a Plan B or Plan C. He's young though. He could still add some of those dimensions to his game.
I don't think you need to be a problem solver to win Slams, although it certainly helps. I think he needs to play better for a lot longer against tougher opponents.

Zverev's big problem is that he plays worse in Slams and that he plays worse when it gets tight. Especially if he gets in a tight spot vs players he thinks he should be beating.

Sorry, actually meant best of five. I'll hold out and see how he performs in upcoming usopen. Based on my limited observation, he is not as tantalizing as Nadal or Djokovic when they were 21. But who knows , he can be a late bloomer like fed and will blitzkrieg through the opposition .... Who knows?!
It’s not fair to compare ANYONE to Fed, Nadal, or Djokovic.

Those are the three greatest players in history.

He'll never be a problem solver. That's not his game. He's a unilateral ball basher who a big serve cause he's 1m98 and who's only special thing is that he doesn't get bothered by long rallies like any other ball basher.

His serve is hot/cold, and one bad serving days he's really bad. His forehand is improving, and he can eat up the sitters well enough on a fast high bouncing court. But his forehand will never be a killer shot.

There are 5 things you can do vs Zverev that he'll hate forever. 4 and 5 are about doing the same thing

- return his serve
- neutralize his backhand
- punish his loopy forehand
- abuse his court positioning
- abuse his net game

But really to get into a match vs Zverev you have to get into neutral rallies first. Servebotting a bit yourself can help
the matchup for him is the same as the matchup vs Djokovic, go with variety to the FH (pace, spin, angle). Of course Djokovic's return and movement make that much harder to do, and his FH was always quite a bit better than Zverev's, and improved at handling junk under Becker. But players of the ilk of Murray(when he's not losing his mind)/Hewitt/younger Fed would have a field day with that matchup.

I don’t hate Sascha, I just don’t find his game interesting. Also he is arrogant with his Let’s goooooo and beckoning the crowd to applaud a shot he thinks was brilliant. Also still can’t forget those knee length football/hockey socks and Borg outfit at last year’s Open and then losing to Coric in the 2nd round. Someone should have told him he had to earn it before dressing like a complete Pratt.

Roger:"Hey Pete, what do you think of Nadalgaenger's post?"

Pete: "It's not fair Rogi, I've still got more Slams than Novak!"

I will give Zverev the nod as the real thing when he wins a major. He's obviously a talented player, and should only get better, but I feel like he's missing something that could make it hard for him to get there. I could be wrong. I mean, if Cilic can win a major then Zverev should be able to as well. With all that said, there is not a single thing about his game that I find enjoyable to watch.

Still can't compare the rest to the big 3, they are and will go down as the greatest in history, whilst Murray will be crying at 3.00am for the rest of his life ;-)

I think a good, sharp Murray makes Zverev initiate the self-destruct sequence in a matter of minutes

honestly the same goes for all the young guns. They have no idea how to deal with any kind of variety and rope a dopery for obvious reasons. And the ones that do have limited weapons.

But his entire on and off court persona is hugely cringy and off putting, so people just like to enjoy the ride while he keeps failing. It's opposite of what some Fed fans should do but don't. Don't worry about #21 but enjoy the matches he wins.

It's funny, that's exactly the way I feel about Tsitsipas (of who I'm still a fan) and Shapovalov, but I'm not creating an entire movement against those guys. I'm not even commenting on all the off-putting things I find in their personalities. We all have different perspectives on what's to like or dislike about others, and we can talk about it freely, but it seems a little bit pointless from all the #ABZ brigade to dedicate so much time and effort to someone they dislike so much.

He didn't have a say in his US Open outfit last year. Actually, no player did. It was all the idea of Pharrell Williams and the Adidas design team. Zverev even said in one of his press conferences at Washington this year that he didn't like the long socks, and joked about how a panel of French people that picked them as the 'best-dressed athletes' must have been very drunk to have come to that decision :p
