Tips on beating this guy?

My opponent is a better player than me, I just want to do as well as I can (maybe miraculously beat him too??).

Big serve big forehand big 2hbh. He hits flat. Makes more mistakes on his bh I'm told. Probably similar as a player to @J011yroger j011 but I imagine his serve isnt as big/good, hes not as tall, but his movement and perhaps forehand is probably better

I'm a lefty so probably my best bet is to go my fh to his bh as much as I can, and be very consistent.

What's the 2hbhs weakness? Should I hit high and deep? (Match is on grass so it wont be super high). Should I slice it low? Should I go for the angle? Maybe I could try to use my bh side spin slice at his body to jam him in rallies.

Never played him before but curious to hear opinions based on this description. I'll have a game plan going in but obviously I'll need to work it out on the fly in the match too.

His serve is big but he doesn't volley off it, my plan is to slice it back low down the middle. Maybe to his bh more if I can.

I'll try to hit low skidding first serves, mostly to his bh. And topspin 2nd serves to his body.

During the point I'll try to be consistent, focused and run hard. Try to mix my shots up with different spins to make the game ugly (unless I can find a good tactic to his bh).

Maybe in the 1st set I'll just go and play my usual game, then revert to these tactics in the 2nd if I get smashed.

lol, you're changing your game style even before you've played him.
how do you know he's not bothered by your game.
or maybe his shot tolerance is 3, and you just need to bunt a bunch of balls back.

i'm also presume that unless your game style is to "play ugly", it's not your A game

IMO play him straight up, learn as much as you can, by extending points,etc... see where he's missing... then make small tweaks by adding elements to your normal game, that might disrupt...

i mean, imagine if your solution is to play s&v... but you never s&v, then that's going to be a disaster.

but speaking general strategies/tactics... against flat hard hitters, i tend to not bash as much, as they like/prefer pace rhythm... so i'll throw up heavy high moonballs, short slice (alot), etc... s&v occasionally, or maybe draw them in to net, and force them to beat me by volley/OH. but i'd still bash when the opportunity is right (ie. i'mon the offensive).

I doubt hes anywhere near @J011yroger tennis level.

If he somehow is, dont even bother thinking about it and accept the 6:0 6:0 punishment that awaits you.

I think some people here dont quite realoze the differences that are in tennis levels when comparing a decent 4.0 vs a decent 4.5, yet alone 4.0 vs 5.0 or 4.0 vs 5.5 lol

When playing a better player, resist the temptation and play within your limits. Be aggressive, but keep shots within your skill set and limits. Keep playing high percentage and don't give into temptation of any sort. Play your game and nothing more , nothing less - it's more fun that way.

We have 20 different leagues (according to rank) where I live, and he is solidly winning in the 2nd highest one (Matt ebden ATP rank 40 or whatever) even plays in the highest league

I doubt I will lose 6-0 6-0 though lol

If hes as good as jolly you will, but I doubt he is, I think your goal should be to focus on each and every point and give yourself a goal to win that point, and you will be excited whenever you achieve that goal!

We know more than you grandpa! Get out of here, your time is over, Its time for us young guns rule the TTW world from now on.

Well ... I am for the young guns to take over our country, so I am rooting for you to take over ttw when you are there. You ain't there yet ... but showing great pre-won-anything-yet promise. Probably will have to smooth out some bedside manners 8-B before they will follow. I have a few years left before I become worm dirt ... here to help in the meantime.
