Tipsarevic a dangerous 3rd round for Federer?

Tipsarevic is in the UNICEF Open Final today. Any thoughts on this matchup and who saw their 5 setter?

people always talk about BC (borg curse) but what about FC???? anybody beat fed in GS (2003 wim - present) dont win another slam like safin, delpotro, safin, soderling.
roddick won US 2003 w/o defeating fed in the process and hasnt won a slam since then. roddick serve was only broken in the last game of wim 2009 final.
safin is the only player who won slam pre and after win 2003. nadal win wim 2008 & ao 2009 defeating fed but couldnt defend both of them.
tip came close to beating in ao 2008, but hasnt showed his true potential since then. djokovic hasnt reached another GS final.

All that said, Tipsy could be quite a challenge for Federer but I'd still be surprised if Federer doesn't win.

Their match at the AO was scary and if Tipsy's playing well and playing confidently he can be very difficult .So yes,he could be-depending on which Tipsy shows up.

yeah but nadal is such a loop hole to this curse, so it's not a curse at all. he beat fed 05 and won the title, defended it beating fed again, and again, and again.

No, he can't be a dangerous opponent. I thought Tipsy would be a top10 player for sure a couple of years ago. The guy had some great shots but his mind was always wavering. He seems to have drifted off for quite some time now, almost like a male ivanovic. To me he has more game that troicki, who is above him in the rankings. I guess it is a mental thing with him. His match with Fed in AO a couple of years ago was great, I felt sorry for him when he lost.

Tipsy really had a tough time at the begining of the season. I saw him play at the Sony Erricsson in Miami and he wanted no part in playing in his first round match. He kept telling his coach and girfriend why is he even playing tennis . He was very negative the whole match, and lost pretty bad. He just looked like something was wrong with him mentaly or had an injury, it was just weird. He is one of my favorite players really cool guy, and nice with the fans and kids. Hopefully he has a better second half of the season.

Tips is definitely on the downward slide. And like others said, his making it to the 3rd round is dubious. Incredibly streaky player; makes Berdy look consistent. Might win a set, top. But doubtful.

I don't think he'll be dangerous at all. Tipsarevic is good, but hasn't shown anything in the last few years.

If you think he still had mono in 2008 Wimbledon so be it. But he played a lot better in Wimbledon 2008 than Wimbledon 2009. Only Roddick allowed him to win. So maybe he plays better with 'mono'....

Ummm no he didnt. He sucked at the FO 08 (and not cause of mono, he just sucked). In 09 he actually faced on fire players and thats why he barely scraped through. In 08 he had a joke of a draw and thats why he made the finals... and proceeded to get annihilated.

And I disagree with him playing better in 08 Wimbledon final than 09. Yes his ground strokes weren't top notch in 09 final but that was because he was being given no rhythm since it was a serve oriented match. Against Nadal, its going to be rallies all day long so no wonder he was better of the ground. And yes Roddick did one screw up on that volley, but other than that Roddick didnt "let Federer win" anything. By that logic I can say Federer LET Nadal win by dumping all those backhands into the net on BP. And I would be equally wrong on both counts.

Well, you saw the 2009 match (I assume), you saw how poor the returning was. I think they call that 'forced error' when you miss a return. But they weren't getting much back in play in the last couple of sets especially, cruising on serve. It was not a good match Roddick and Federer played. Otherwise we'd be referring to it as 'the greatest match of all-time'. The scoreline certainly gave it the opportunity to get rave reviews, if the level of play was high.
