I thought it would be interesting to compare the title droughts of Federer and Nadal in their careers. Droughts of longer than 4 months.

Looking at Federer from July 2003 (when he first rose to #3) to January 2011 (same length of time frame as Nadal comparison):

11/19/07-4/19/08 (5 Months)
10/27/08-5/16/09 (6 months and 19 days)
8/24/09-1/30/10 (5 months and 6 days)
2/1/10-8/22/10 (6 months and 21 days)

Looking at Nadal from June 2005 (when he first rose to #3) to today:

10/24/05-3/3/06 (4 months and 7 days)
6/12/06-3/17/07 (9 months and 5 days)
7/23/07-4/26/08 (9 months and 3 days)
8/18/08-1/31/09 (5 months and 13 days)
5/4/09-4/17/10 (11 months and 13 days)
10/11/10-4/16/11 (6 months and 5 days)
6/6/11-4/21/12 (10 months and 15 days(
6/12/12-2/17/13 (8 months and 5 days)

not really very interesting.

with the exception of his peak 2010 season he generally stops winning titles after the natural court season and starts winning them again after it starts.

You mean, with the exception of 2005, 2008 and 2010? All 3 seasons, he won titles on hard after Wimbledon: in 2005, he won Canada, Beijing, Madrid indoor and Dubai 2006. In 2008, he won Canada, Olympics, AO 2009 and IW 2009. 2010 is actually the season (of the 3) when he won the least events after W: USO and Tokyo.
