so nole won by far most big tournaments despite being handicapped with the format (in his peak and prime time). best of 5 format benefits better players and has less risk of upsets.

as of the and of 2024BO5 W%BO3 W%big titles (GS, WTF, OG, M)
nole87,63%81,41%24+7+1+40 = 72
rafa88,17%80,24%22+0+1+36 = 59
fed85,74%80,15%20+6+0+28 = 54

And they played in the same era!

Their eras overlapped but they're not the same generation. 5-6 years is a sizeable gap in tennis.

Fed's development as a player/junior was very much still influenced by 90s playing style which was suited for conditions of the time, which have changed drastically throughout his career.

wimbledon.webp

That's in addition to tour just being structured differently. BO5 set finals were very common before and even top stars would play a small tourney here and there, while skipping a masters or two.

Djokovic relied on the weak competition and circumstances of the tennis format to pad his stats. He truly is not the GOAT, just watch him play against Fed, scrambling everywhere and guessing. His younger age allowed him to get the best of that H2H.

Yes, the greatest winner of five set tennis Djokovic, who has more slam titles, more slams finals, more slam semi finals, more slam quarter finals than anyone else in history in best of five tennis, would not have been successful in more best of five matches. LOL

He has a 100% record in best of five in masters finals, not even Fedal have that. ;)

Djokovic is considered by the majority as the greatest of all time, his accomplishments, his records speak for themselves. He also has the record for dishing out the biggest butthurt in tennis history, don't think that will be surpassed either.

There will always be people who feel Jordan is greater than LeBron, regardless of stats and records.

It is relevant because I passed analogies in second grade. Djokovic:tennis as LeBron:hoops.
That doesn't matter which grade you passed what

Federer had everything and there is zero points for styles. Same era. Djokovic is much more successful. Even beat same rival Nadal far more.

i wonder how many times did jordan played lebron and what their h2h is? how often basketball players plays each other 1 to 1?

i know that nole met rafa 60 times and that it is the OE record and that nole met fed 50 times and it is 2nd most in OE. and he has positive h2h vs both.

Yes

we will not lose track with random NBA namedrops. Come back to TENNIS. Not NBA not Boxing

The more they will try to run away the more in their face we will get.

i don't know but it must be some reason that sports based on goals, scores and points (football, basketball, tennis, wallyball) is more popular than those there is referees that gives points for stile and such things (figure skating, artistic swimming, water jumping, rhythmic gymnastics).

Well, Jordan won 10 scoring titles, while LeBron only won one scoring title.
And Jordan has the highest career PPG average 30.1
Jordan also has the highest career playoff PPG average 33.4
And LeBron is well known for being a part-time-defender, while Jordan gave full effort and was always in the All-Defensive team etc.
History will always have Jordan ahead of LeBron, both offensively and defensively, because its not even close... and that's before we even factor in winning and clutchness.
So despite LeBron's longevity, his lack of peak greatness makes him very inferior.
Djokovic's lack of peak greatness makes him very inferior too, as Federer-Nadal 2004-2010 remain the gold standard.

Djokovic prevailed over the Big 3 era. Who did Federer beat? Most were Roddick, Hewitt and the never-to-be stars. He beat Djokovic just once post-'11, the '12 WB. Post-'11, Djokovic beat Federer 9 times, all of which resulted in slam championships.

Djokovic had against Federer post-'11, records of 12-8 non-slams and 9-2 slams. Federer lost the slam race, not because Djokovic was younger, but because he performed so badly in the suspense-filled slam matches. If he had performed as well in the slams as in the non-slams, he might've have won the slam race!

Federer lost 3 slam matches to Djokovic when he had double match points. You've to ask yourself, 'Did a player like that deserved to be known as the best player ever?'

Roddick owns Djokovic.

Djokovic was 4-5, but won their last 2 meetings! Is that your idea of owning! BTW, by that time, both Federer and Nadal had positive H2H against Djokovic! Andy often joked that he knew when to quit, to maintain their H2H!

Roddick leads Djokovic, better H2H.

that, of course, based on aye test and trust me brur metric?! as always with fedals fans. you names stats when compare jordan and lebron but not when you compare nole with fed and rafa. BUT ALL measurable stats point on nole as player with greatest and highest peak! he has record high ATP points by some margin (16950, would be 17110 with today's system and sinner is dominant no1 with 11330). he is only player that owned all 4 slams simultaneously since 3 different surfaces. he has highest ELO in history. he has greatest winning streak in OE. he had 7-0 run vs peak rafa in 7 big finals on all surfaces. he won 3 times vs fed on feds most favorite court and 3 times vs rafa on rafas favorit court (rafa never won vs nole on noles favorit court and fed did it only once before nole brought through back in 2007 when nole was no15).

Regardless of the thread, I don't think it's as straightforward as that? His BO5 prowess is in the context of slams, for the most part (with DC bringing up the rear, I guess). If there are more BO5 finals throughout the season, it provides more opportunities for everyone (in theory, obviously they still need to make the final) to play BO5 tennis. Say you lose to a guy in a BO5 final who is not one of your regular final opponents, the next time you face him in a slam it's not so daunting for him anymore.

He has a 100% record in best of five in masters finals, not even Fedal have that. ;)
True but I believe Fed has a surface on which he has a 100% win rate. Off-topic, though.

Djokovic is considered by the majority as the greatest of all time, his accomplishments, his records speak for themselves. He also has the record for dishing out the biggest butthurt in tennis history, don't think that will be surpassed either.
Jury's still out on that one.

its as if im always right lol. Basically rubber stampingwhat i have been saying, and obviously young players do care about history of the sport and check these things.

This settles it.

Together with the #slams before age 30

Federer leading in every meaningful statistic
Consensus in locker room as we know now from the multitude of comments by players is Federer v Nadal is the ultiimate debate. I still think Federer's big one is being record holder at 2 of the 4 slams.
