To think in 2012 people said Federer wouldn't last till Rio...

fedr between London and Rio Olympics....

222-52 @ 81%
76-20 @ 81% at majors
13-5 @ 72% at WTF

13 singles titles
4 masters titles
Davis cup win

28 finals
3 major finals
3 WTF finals
10 masters finals

8 major semis (3A, 3W, 2U)

7-11 vs Djokovic
(compare to Murray + Nadal: 8-28 vs Djokovic)
14-18 vs big 4

(since august 2013, i.e. based purely on post-London)
48 weeks at number 2
60 weeks at number 3

That's a pretty damn good career right there
This would make particularly uncomfortable reading for Pat Cash. If he had any scruples, that is.

I felt that was the best way to convey my point to you. You seem to operate on a Nadal based prism.

The point being Federer has lasted till Rio unless he never plays anther match again. So if the Raonic match was the last of Federer's career then you are correct.

If Federer comes back in 2017, YOU are WRONG!

He didn't last till Rio to play there.

His Wimbledon match over Cilic this year is far better than anything Djokovic has brought to tennis spectator eyes this year.

I take it spectators weren't wowed with Doha final and that AO semi.

All hail to the Allmighty , man won 4 Cincinati in 4 years.

he didnt last to OG in Rio (and you fans don't know if he will come back on tennis courts), but he must have great memories from Sydney, Athena, Beijing and London.

Well I can see @kishnabe's point in a roundabout way. The Federer-Cilic match this year is probably the most exciting match so far regardless of fan affiliation. Djokovic is dominant now which is almost a synonym for boring. Federer used to be that player and in 2006 he would've beaten Cilic in 3 sets and it would've been "boring." Djokovic can reach levels now that nobody else can so he's by far the best player, but as a consequence, boring. It's basically a compliment.

I like how you put it that way

I know. But to say spectators don't feel the wow factor when someone is playing the highest level possible is a little far fetched. That is like saying outside of RG 2013 semi and the Rome finals of 05 and 06, Rafa was boring on clay, especially at RG 08.

Or Federer was boring during 04 to 07, especially at AO 07.

To say only one type of scenario creates a wow factor is a little far fetched to be taken seriously.

@Firstservingman explains why Djokovic isn't boring

Not really, I don't think. Nadal was pretty boring on clay for years on end. The only people that really enjoyed that were Nadal fans, just like Djokovic fans now or Federer fans 10 years ago. Sure you appreciate a high level, but if it's not competitive it gets boring. That's where Djokovic is now. I also know a lot of people who started liking Federer after he stopped dominating and a lot of his matches were closer. Like the Cilic one.

No, I think you are missing my point. I have never said that one player winning everything is must see tv, what I said was that the wow factor is not only restricted to when you have a Federer v Cilic match, showcasing tennis brilliance like the Doha final can be breathtaking also...that has nothing to do with one guy winning everything all the time.

As a Federer fan I can understand this. :)

Thats the FED Train just shooting by those people who said in 2012 that Fed wouldn't last until Rio.

Prediction stuff are better left to the experts.

True. The only negative thing on that list is 3)
That's the most positive thing. He has the guts and honesty to consistently root for a guy who in the past has never been a lock to win tournaments.

It doesn't exactly take courage to root for Federer or Nadal this year. ;)

Except that nearly every guy who rooted for Fed this year, has been rooting for him for years.
