When Delpo blew the third and was sat at the end of the set with his towel over his head I was so disappointed. After the beating he gave Nadal there was no way he should have gone down so easily... Little did I know what lay ahead.

Just think how amazed everyone has been with Medvedev in his USO final debut just now, and undoubtedly he was great, but Delpo was like 3 years younger, and face to face with the 5 time defending champion.

AND HE WON GOING AWAY!

yes such an incredible feat achieved under tremendous pressure......one of the best open era heroics......

i turned off the tv disappointed after the 3rd set, thinking that i can check the score later like in 30 mins and totally fell asleep......when i got up i was almost shocked knowing the result......

A classic!
The night where Federer stopped being invincible on the hard courts of NY.
A Tandil Tower was his final stop.

I didn't truly accept Roger until ~2013..but I also didn't care much for JMDP at the time and so this was the first time I actively rooted for Federer in a major final. Lo and behold..

Love them both now, btw

Damn Delpo was only 20 at the time....the sky was the limit was him, but his health sadly had other ideas

The slow courts killed Del Potro. His bludgeoning forehands destroyed his wrist when trying to smash through the baseline defenders on courts that don't favour big hitters.

he barely lost to davydenko in your finals that year and was many people’s favourite going into 2010 aus open......great times ruined by his wrist injury.......
