Football once used to be almost as important for me as tennis, and the World Cup was the biggest event in football without any question. Both objectively seen and for myself. I'm still totally into World Cup history and have watched tons of old full match and highlight videos, just like with past tennis matches. But the present times are just a shadow of what it once was.

And it's not only the Qatar nonsense this year, it started way earlier. Back then football between countries and especially continents was a clash of styles. Nowadays all top teams have the same style, because all teams' top players are playing in Europe's top leagues anyway (or they just have no chance). For example, there are only 3 of 26 players from the once great Brazilian league in the once great Brazilian national team these days.

Even European club competitions were a nice clash of styles back then, because most players stayed in the league of their country. Nowadays even many players in "national" teams are not native citizens of their countries anymore. The team compilation looks more and more random, in clubs AND "national" teams.

Only one thing is nice: Football generally got more offensive and risky again these days. We see kind of most goals on top level in past 50 years right now.
