I was told that
Creating match threads of Big 3 against a complete outsiders in the first rounds is completely useless. The main tournament thread / general discussion is intended for commenting on such matches.
but I believe Nagal vs Medevedev match fully deserves a dedicated thread.

I am sure @sureshs agrees with me as well as @Checkmate @Jonesy @I Am Finnish and @El_Yotamo.

Well not really, Nagal isn't taking any medal here. So why upset the only guy who can make this tournament uncertain for Djokovic.

Nagal chased everything down today as well as played with heavy topspin to grind Istomin down.

He will throw RPM bombs to Daniel's FH, for sure.

First guy to beat Fed in Wimbledon named Novak...it was a sign of things to come
thats right. beaten when federer was only 18 years of age. funnily he has one of the best H2H against federer ever...sign of things to come?

Medvedev didn't look in Round 1. Only saw the second set, he was a break down and saved 2 set points in tie-break. He was visibly struggling with the heat. A 3rd set with these conditions against an unpredictable guy like Bublik would've been very tricky for him. It was a tough draw though. Nagal should be much easier to handle. But he isn't getting to the final with that level, he will need to do better.

A poll and live thread for Murray/Auger and Nishikori/Rublev would be more welcome than this one, btw...

No and no.

fedr was still 17 on 22 June 1999.

Jiri Novak wound up 4-5 h2h with fedr, hardly one of the best h2h records vs Roger. In fact there are 11 players, four still quite active (ND, Nadal, Thiem, Zverev, with positive h2h records Others with positive and thus better records than Jiri Novak from early fedr days were:

Hrbaty 2-1
Kuerten 2-1
Kafelnikov 4-2
Corretja 3-2
Enqvist 3-2
Rafter 3-0
Ferreira 2-1

And then, of course, there’s the man who once double bageled fedr in the Basel U14s. The great Reto Schmidli caught an ambitious but overmatched young fedr on a bad day, thus walking away with a historic win.

right thanks for letting us know. rafter's 3-0 record looks impervious...But federer only matured game wise by 2005/2006 i think. he wasnt a great player till then. even peak andre dismantled him on the us open in 2001..
