Didn't see it, but congrats to Zverev / Germany for a good win

Novak's win streak is halted, but still a chance for Bronze. The Grand Slam beckons though - should be the ultimate priority.

Before the match I thought Sascha could win, but I never expected Novak to take foot off the gas this much after being a set and a break up. One of his strangest matches I ever saw. And what a bad time to deliver that...

I guess he had to lose eventually, he was on a good run since the Rome final. But what I am sure is that disappointments like these can only slow him down and just delay the inevitable victories, as evidenced so many times in the past. He will be so dangerous for the entire field in New York. And if Rafa can't produce the required level of tennis to win it, then I will be fully supporting Novak to achieve the Calendar Slam. Because, unless one is that much of a hater of his, it's obvious that this is once in a lifetime opportunity for us fans of this great sport to witness such a surreal achievement and at least a part of you will want to see it happen.

Big upset and possibly Djokovic's last chance to win Gold but I am sure he'll be back in 2024. Very surprising considering the year Djokovic has had so far. Maybe Olympics subconsciously doesn't mean as much to Djokovic as slams?

This is simply untrue. You can be a fan of the sport and not want it to be at the mercy of one man. They are not mutually exclusive. I am a Federer fan so I do not want this to happen for obvious reasons. But beyond that, I am a tennis fan, first and foremost, and I think Novak winning CYGS could kill the sport. And no, I do not hate Djokovic. I mean, what is the point of watching, if the same guy keeps winning all slams? It's what made RG supremely boring for non-Rafans. At some point one wants to see new faces, fresh blood and new challengers proving themselves to be capable of reaching the pinnacle and winning the Grand Slams. Tennis is unwatchable currently for how utterly predictable and barren it has become. The only thing that can save tennis are new champions and new superstars to take over from these legends. A 35 year old man winning the CYGS is incredible for Novak fans and a disaster for other fans and neutral tennis fans.

Just watched the third set and Zverev destroyed Djokovic 6-1! Zverev was FIERCE!!!! Djokovic imploded! Such an amazing victory for Sasha!

Congrats to Sascha, well deserved win. Novak's still the GOAT, but it's been all about Zverev today. He honestly has the best 6'6 defense ever and combined with good serving day is doing some massive damage.

I really hope that you didn't watch the match.
I did watch for 2 first sets, said to my father it' s over went out to buy ice cream .

I'm all for young guys taking over soon but this is a CYGS we are talking about. It's nowhere near the feeling of inevitability watching Nadal win Roland Garros for so many years or Djokovic and Federer prevailing at their favorite events year in year out either. It's just 2021, one season. Claiming Novak could actually "kill the sport" and deliver a "disaster" to neutrals by doing a one year sweep of Majors, something that hasn't been done by anyone in half a century, that's just you talking as a Fed fan.

i suspect an injury, and of course many doubts in his mind. also, the doubles match is also towards defeat now.

I thought this could happen with how Zverev was serving. Pity I only had my 5$ free bet instead of the 25$. Due to the way those were getting credited I guess it will hit my account today maybe. It better anyway. Would have been nice if I had bet a few extra bucks on it though.

Oh well :)

I am shocked. Missed the match. Shock that novak won the first set 6-1 and lost the damn match. Novak needs to take some time off until the us open.

It's always been possible to hit Djokovic off a tennis court, it's just rarely accomplished because it's tough to sustain that level for very long, but Zverev did it in this small tournament, so good for him.

Come off it Mainad ! - When FeDalovic NEVER win an Olympic Gold in this "meaningless little expo"*
it's because they can't be arsed and they aren't bothered about it - OF COURSE !
I mean winning an Olympic medal is just nothing right? - No effort required by anyone.
Anyone can be a double Olympic champion.

See how easily the Murray breezed past Delpotro here - Delpo just handed the match to the Bin Man bum.
He didn't really try at all !

Clearly Novak tanked because he was injured or didn't care or hurt his toe or something.

But most of all we all know what a great sportsman Novak is - he let Zed win because Novaks like that - You know, generous and never cheats ( on anyone ), let's people beat him all the time! Never fakes injury or anything like that. - That's why he's the most popular of the Big 4 such a lovely generous chap........
