No. 20 seed and 2011 quarter finalist Bernard Tomic is 2 sets to 1 down and a break down in the 4th against Belgian David Goffin in the first round on court 2. Thoughts? Tomic seems almost resigned to losing, dunno why he looks so unfussed.

expected a close one here. good win for goffin
underlining that his RG showing was not just a fluke

tomic will lose alot of points but i guess it may be better for him to drop a bit in the ranking. he doesnt seem to have made any progress in his game lately possibly because his ranking led him to believe hes already up there. which he clearly isnt

This Goffin guy could make something of himself. He's probably too small to be a consistent threat, but it really is nice watching someone who hearkens back to guys like Agassi and Grosjean.

I really enjoyed watching him against Fed at the FO. It's refreshing to see someone hugging that baseline and taking his shots early. When you have an aggressive mindset and good hands, you can excel on any surface.

Very nice showing for him against someone who proved he can play some grass tennis last year.

Didn't he do that at another recent tournament, too? (Tomic, I mean?)

Just walk out of a match claiming "injury" even though it wasn't terribly apparent exactly what the injury was ...?

Might have been Halle, or whatever grass warmup tournament he played in. I think he retired there

Good riddance to Tomic. His smashing the racquet after he lost and before he shook hands with Goffin showed what lack of class he has. Him and his ilk (Balkan state migrants) are amongst the most smug and arrogant people in Australia. Tomic's antics on and off court just demonstrate why basically everyone else hates them.

Here's to him getting a few more lessons in humility to buck his ideas up so he can become the player he should be.

Can Tomic win one of the slams in the future ?

Watched most of the match against Nishikori (I happen to be a fan of both players so I made sure I was around to watch it), disappointed at Tomic's apparent lack of urgency even when he was behind in the crucial second set tiebreak. Seemed content to just pat it around and hope Nishikori would make errors. His attitude particularly in that tiebreak seemed to indicate he wanted the match to finish rather than fight his way back into it. Needs to alter his attitude a bit among other things (movement was poor enough too!) if he wants to improve.

Just my opinion, no expert here :p
