Stop talking about Fedr at once!! The misunderstood GOAT Tomic is back.

Playing none other than world number 253 Antoine Hoang in the first round of the Lille Challenger. It's an indoor court that should suit Tomics crafty, no-movement orientated game. The number one seed in the draw is Nicolas Mahut. Tomic is also playing doubles.

Consider this the Tomic match thread. Will he win??

you can watch the pure greatness of Tomic in this live stream tomorrow.

The jungle may have changed him, for the 45 minutes or so he decided to tough it out there.

Tomic the TANKGOAT in full swing this year. Titles galore to be collected in the coal carriage.

Let's see if Tomic can avoid going the way of Gulbis.
Unfair to Gulbis...at Tankic's current age (25), Ernests was busy reviving his career and clearing a path to top 10 ranking a year later. After that, Ernests has not been able to stay healthy until this past year. So, unless you're wishing for Tankic to continue his spiral downwards, you would want him to have EG as a role model.

Tomic not in the same circles as Gulbis! His family is that of ultra wealth! Talking about multi-billionaire up bringing, world of drugs and high society mixed together. Tomic is from a middle class upbringing. $14 million to Gulbis; is what he spends on stuff and what his allowance is for a year! Yes, he and Tomic are slackers but total different in terms of wealth!

Guess Tomic already made his peak earlier in 2016.
Neither are suited for the Challenger Grind but even re entering Top 50 may be a big ask.

Tomic still playing? He’s got to find why he’s playing the game rather than fulfilling his daddy’s lost dreams of never making it himself.

Saw that he's on the entry list for next weeks Challenger in Saint-Brieuc which is on an indoor hard court. Following week I believe he's playing a clay (why!) challenger in Alicante, Spain.

And he's still in the doubles in Lille this week. Perhaps some match wins there could help.

As bad as this loss looks on paper, he was in the South African jungle less than 2 months ago eating animal parts, being bitten by snakes and not training at all. Not like he's been playing tennis full time. No idea why they had him the betting fav.

Anyway, he managed to win a set against a top 300 player, suggesting Futures tournaments seems idiotic. I'm sure he'll get some wins in coming weeks.

Imagine how much better his life would be if he ditched his father as a coach, got a real coach, and had sessions with a psychologist to sort out his issues. I cannot believe John Tomic is still his "coach" lol

Yes he was in Africa. For 1 day...

I don't even see the talent. All of his strokes just seem meh.
He doesn't have any big weapons but at his best, Tomic can be a tricky player to play even with his obvious weaknesses.

He has an okay serve, and is good with changing his shots with slice.
Flat forehand has decent pace and can confuse players not used to his play style, but is rarely used to blast winners.
Good touch and anticipation but held back by his poor movement and fitness.
That's pretty much it, though I suppose his disguise on drop shots is relatively impressive.

Of course his biggest flaw is his effort and lack of fight. Wouldn't really call him mentally weak, but he sure isn't strong in that department.

Also a mildly interesting fact is that he leads the H2H 5-1 against Verdasco. Pretty surprisingo_O

Solid description, though for a 6 foot 5 guy his serve is lacklusture. Pretty much any player that height serves better than Tomic.

He had top 10 potential, some less talented players have cracked the top 10. But ofc he has no work ethic or desire so he doesn't come close to that.

he would certainly climb back up the rankings if he suddenly decided to knuckle down. I still keep an eye out for his results :D

I was reading that his former coach from his childhood saying he wasn’t surprised at Bernie’s fall from the top because it was mainly his father pushing him into the sport and it clearly shows. Reminds me of Agassi, but I doubt Bernie will recover the way Agassi did. I am not sure I care if he does. The guy has burnt too many bridges and his general attitude, comments relating to his fellow professionals and generally being a ***** have not endeared to many Tennis fans IMO.
