Tomic = lost cause

He retired 8mins in? What the actual hell? Tomic what are you doing? Last year he actually looked like he might be started to try again and become a top 20 player and now this... what is going on in that boys mind?

Obviously article is just an opinion piece but there's no doubt the kid hasn't been doing himself many favours of late and in reality the only thing that will save him from here is success.

Like Kyrigos, he just needs to let his racquet (preferably the right end of it) do the talking, Tomic has talent and can do some damage within the main draw of a Slam, however like many of the youngsters being able to do it for 7 consecutive matches is his problem.

As an Australian I've never really warmed to him, however I really hope he can find success, whatever that may look like to him.

Points taken. But probably wishful thinking for Tomic - the leopard/spots saying comes to mind. Kyrgios isn't that old and I'd hold out hope for him out of the 2.

Although be careful what you ask for. If Tomic made a major SF (highly unlikely) I'd be afraid what the party afterwards would be like.

Wasted potential is all I can say. Now I don't know why he acts that way and we probably never will, however it's not the 1st time we see money getting to a "professional" athlete's head. The ATP should do something about it though. What he did today is not only a **** you to tennis in general, it's also a **** you to all the average people like you and I who bought tickets with they're hard earned money to watch a "professional" tennis match because they enjoy the sport.

The article actually failed to include the incident earlier this year when he said he didn't want to be in this f***ing place (I think it was at Acapulco) and wished he were driving his Ferrari to Miami instead!

I actually found the article sad reading. Joking apart, there's no doubt about his ability and potential but it sounds like his character flaws are never going to let them shine through. There's nothing sadder than someone who pointlessly wastes his god-given talent when others would give their eye-teeth to be able to play professional tennis at a high level like he has done.

I commiserate with all Aussie tennis fans looking for a worthy successor to the greats of yesteryear. It must be a real bummer for them to have to witness their most talented tennis stars pratting about in this way! :(

It was Estoril I believe.
They also ignored him quitting Sydney which was a really **** move as well.
They should add those 2 to the bad Bernard timeline and remove his dad being violent as it doesn't really reflect anything on Bernard.

The article was written by someone who creates opinion / entertainment-based viral written content. This author generally take a widely agreed-upon public opinion and then uses it as their contention in emphatic written pieces that are designed to appeal as strongly as possible to people who hold the same opinion so that they can then share the content through social media networks as heavily as possible.

It is not a serious editorial article or journalistic reportage by someone involved in tennis. And there is never a single detail that is new or has not been deciminated widely already.

I agree about Tomic's woes and that he has been struggling for a long time but I don't think this article sheds any new light in any way, shape or form on Tomic or anything else. The content is just an example of the sneaky way our opinion-based meta-data is being measured and presented back to us for profit in weird parody / opnion / humour / "outrage" style "articles".

Article no longer works. He has been like this for a while, remember when he got like 18 speeding tickets in a year and driving a v8 when he was underage? Didnt even bother to drive a car he was allowed to, just kept getting pulled over.

His dad is also a freak show, the apple doesnt fall far they say.

Even the biggest fans of Novak Djokovic know deep down that the young generation are clowns.
No one is disagreeing with this. It's more that Old Fed, Andy, Stan, Rafa and Ninja are all good/great players and worthy competition if not all time greats (in present form of course). But yah obv there are no young ATGs on the horizon like a young Djoker/Fed/Rafa. No disputing that. Doesn't mean that beating the above guys is meaningless, they're solid competitors.

Good point in the last paragraph. Still, it's a valid opinion.

I honestly think atomic has peaked. He might drop to rank 50 in a year.

Tragic tennis story.
I think he could have won a big master title or two if not damaged mentally tennis wise. Who knows what his personal life is like.
if Bernie was to undergo a full medical psychiatric evaluation he would most likely be diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
it would be interesting to observe what type of relationship Bernie has with his mother.
Bernie needs to leave tennis and get into re-parenting therapy. Then come back if he wants.
He needs to be re parented. There is something that was lacking and missed during his maturation process.
He stopped developing emotionally at some specific age and trauma event.

This is pure speculation but i think his dad may have been rough on his mom, physically.

It was Quito, Ecuador actually. But yeah the microphones picked him up as saying, "I could be in Miami driving my Ferrari, I don't need to be here. **** this place!"

Stupid article written from a point of view that suffers from what it purports to criticise. This is not to say that Tomic has anything other than a deplorable attitude. But let's not turn him into a whipping boy.

I think his issues stem from being pushed way too hard by an abusive father. Unfortunately, I don't think he has the sand to kick his dad's ass to the curve and focus on tennis

He was never going to be a slam winner; He doesn't have the weapons to blow people off the court, doesn't have the mentality, movement/defence to compensate for a lack of weapons, I don't think he cares about winning a slam anyway. Good job really.

I would give Federer a better chance at 50 to win a slam than this current Tomic.

There's still hope he may get inspired to maximize his potential. I'd say 50/50 chance before his career is done. Being 23 these days is like being 18 in the 80s. Each gen takes longer to mature it seems.

All I can do is laugh...any of us would love to take Tomic place.

He going to regret fooling around when his career is over...surely you can party in your later years.

Before he knows it...he will be passed by Kyrgios and Kokkinatis.

Making a WTF or something like this. He has that variety, obviously, that can annoy mindless baseline bashers.
I just don't rate his tennis, each to their own. I don't think he moves well enough or competes well enough to compensate for a lack of weapons. His serve is below average for someone of his height as well. Doesn't help. The only thing I can say which could help him is that he doesn't care enough to choke.

Tomic is like Agassi but without the results and worse attitude.

Heck, maybe Agassi can talk to him, light a fire under him.

Clearly Tomic had to work hard to get to this point, theres no such thing as natural talent that gets you to number 20 in the world. Even if all the work was against his will, it doesnt make sense to stop caring when you have come this far. He probably acts this way because he's actually playing terrible tennis. Welp, might as well act like I dont care!

The top 5 are dedicated to tennis completely. Diet, lifestyle, scheduling practice every day, and putting their all in at every match. Its not the lifesyle for someone who enjoys life, its the lifestyle of someone on a mission. The reward being the victory at the end. Things like lamborginis are cheap thrills in comparison.

Eight minutes of tennis out in the open like that was just too much for him.
You should be allowed to play tennis from within a Ferrari.

Why Tennis Australia hasn't disowned him I don't know.
