Tomic won 10,000 euros in 11 minutes at Beijing ATP 500

Bernard Tomic , knocked out of the top 100 after another season to forget, left Beijing Sunday with a check of 10,000 euros in his pocket, but not doing much to deserve it.
The 26-year-old Australian dropped out in the second and final round of the Chinese ATP 500 qualifying round after 11 minutes when he was 2-2 at home to Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. All this… one day after not even having to play to pass the first qualifying round, as Marton Fucsovics dropped out of the race minutes before the match, giving the organization no time to find an alternate.
This was also the third dropout followed by Tomic…

Honestly not sure how you can retire in three consecutive tournaments and get away with it.... He freaking held his serve and then retired.

He's retired in 3 of his last 4 tournaments

2-2 against Chardy today
6-1 3-1 down against Istomin in Chengdu qualies (he was the defending champ
2-1 down against Rublev in Cincy
Played Rogers Cup and qualified with 2 wins then lost 1R to RBA
Retired 6-2 3-0 down against De Minaur in Atlanta

This all of course comes after his massive Wimbledon fine for not trying hard enough where he was fined all his prize money.

Outside of slam quallies, I don't think he'll be able to qualify for anything for a long while. These last few tourneys were his last gasp as a Tour level player.

That’s why you need to concentrate and pay close attention when you buy a ticket to watch him play.
He may be gone at any time.

He really does not seem to want to play tennis for a living. He probably has no other marketable skill to do anything else, thanks to his father. I guess he could be a club pro, but I bet he would hate giving lessons to uncoordinated adults and rich kids at some fancy tennis club.
I don't think he wants to do anything for a living. Maybe test drive Ferraris, but he'd probably even start disliking that were he being paid to do it.

excellent point... you may have just solved the bernie jigsaw! :D

the ATP is doing it the wrong way... they should pay him when he tank (extra reward)... he'll get tired of tanking and start fighting as if he was the new hewitt ;)

... no?

10000 in 11 minutes.

That's like saying Federer won 2 million in a slam finale in 5 seconds when he converted a MP.

We ignore the amount of work Tomic put into traveling all the way to Asia and back, stepping onto the court, and having to warm up for 5 minutes despite hating tennis.

Money well deserved and earned.
