It all kicks off tomorrow. The greatest road trip has ended and everyone has stopped in New York. For us Americans, we are lucky. Tennis coverage from sun up to sun down for two weeks straight. Everything live. Nothing delayed from overseas. 20,000 screaming fans at 1am is what I live for. No more bickering about grass not being grass anymore. How clay give Rafa the edge over Roger.

All the players on tour have been on the blue hardcourts for six weeks now and used to it. No more Chris Fowler until January. Life is good for the next two weeks. But, there is one more thing we must accomplish today.

Predictions!

I'm never a guy that likes to take the obvious title contender (Roger). Therefore, I'll go with my underdog:

Marat Safin: 2007 US Open Champion (one can dream)!

Ok, now it's your turn. One name, no debating, just a thread to allow those to come back two Sunday's from now and either goat or hang our heads in shame.

Let the predictions begin!

I tried to list the top 30 players, but I was limited to only 9 players and an 'other' option. Please don't blast me for not including your darkhorse...I tried.

Uh, if he goes out first round, Ill have to take a break from the forum until he comes back with another masters victory. Coming from my hometown, I can dream of a Joker pulling another joke in couple of weeks ceremony on Fed. ;)

I think Scoville Jenkins has a real chance to upset federer in the 1st round. Have you seen Scoville, he is built like a football linebacker. this could be his breakthru.

I really like Scoville a lot. I mean a ton. Lots of style and always smiling. Like a Monfils with class. Not sure about upsetting Roger, but I will be hoping he does--as well--hoping it is televised.

I'm thinking it will be...#1 seed vs. a young American. I'm hoping it will be anyway.

Federer will win this tournament again. He plays his best tennis at the Slams. I don't think anyone will really even push him. My prediction, he wins it without going five sets. :)

This is too easy. Federer wins number 12 in Flushing Meadow and gets the new record in 2008. Pete had a good run, but it's time to make the GOAT official.

Didn't know it was a physique contest. Thanks for sharing that.

More or less agree. One or two 4 setters at worst. His opponents better pray for nasty winds.

Agree. And that would mean he'd have won 3 out of 4 Slams in 5 straight years. Truly amazing dominance over a (relatively) long period of time. Even Tiger Woods can't get close to that.

Lleyton will stomp everyone into the ground on his way to the final, then defeat Fed 3-6, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (7) saving 4 match points in what will be known as one of the great comebacks in sports history.

OOOOOHHHHH....I like the sounds of that!

Bagdatis, Youhzny, Djokovic, and Federer will be the final 4. With Federer winning it all. I think I misspelled most of those names. :D (I haven't checked the draws yet so I don't know if this is even possible.)

Edit: After checking draws: Bagdatis, Djokovic, Gonzalez, and Federer.

You ended up with 50% correct! :D

Your poll is on 2008 . Still a year to go but i would pick and choose Hewitt for 2007. For next year still long way to predict but i still bet on Hewitt, secondly Nadal.

Even if the poll was deliberately intended for 2008 I'd still pick Federer for champ. Then he'd have done what (if I'm not mistaken) no other player in history male or female has done and that's 5 straight at 2 different slams. Still he's chasing yet another borg record, 4 straight at 2 different slams (Borg did 4 in a row at RG and 5 in a row at Wimbledon).
