“I watched the final with him and I told him to look at where Djokovic was returning. He was much closer to the baseline than he did in the semi-finals. He admitted I was right and he was wrong in returning all the time from very behind.

I asked him why he did not change his return position as both Francis Roig and I were telling him that during the match. He told me he had not seen it, he did not understand us and if he did he would have definitely done it."

Expect Rafa to return from the baseline instead of the back fence the next time they play

Because every dang commentator mentioning Rafa returning from the front row belachers was hurting him wasn't enough? Thanks Toni. Spot of secret brilliance there. No one knew.

"RAFAEL NADAL’s uncle Toni has revealed a secret conversation the pair had during Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon final win over Roger Federer."

Wasn't it a bit late to be giving him that advice during the final? Might it not have better served it's purpose during the semi-final??

That's all well and good lol, but to say it "wasn't enough" is to suggest that it was something that was tried and failed. Nothing actually happened lol
I tried to have a thread on this when it first came out, but apparently the report button was hit one too many times by your friends

I get Rafa's strategy of standing back to get every possible return back, but how far back he stands or how often he employs this strategy in a particular match should be inversely proportional to well that opponent makes him pay for weak/short returns. It should be a no-brainer that what works perfectly against Kevin Anderson on hardcourts will not work as well against one of the best aggressive early-ball hitters of all time, especially on low-bouncing grass courts. Rafa needs to start altering his strategy for opponent and/or during a match as well as he used to. He seems to have gotten more stubborn lately.

Where was Tony when Nadal failed to get a single break point for 2.5 sets vs Kyrgios in the second rd because the same tactical blunder?

Guess Roig told him, he didn't understand it during the match, then admitted he was wrong a few hours later, then forgot he was wrong and repeated the mistake, all in the space of 1 week.

Just damage control, people.
