Toni also clarified if she would advise the Canadian on how to beat Rafa. “No man no. I had nothing to say to him to win over my nephew. I have already told you: I will not tell you if my nephew has this or that. Most of all, I’m Rafael’s uncle.I have been with Rafael for many years, I work with Rafael at the academy. And even though he didn’t work for Rafael, he was my nephew. I won’t tell others how he should beat her ”, a position Auger-Aliassime accepted without any problems.

Ethically, I wouldn’t tell my nephew what he had to do to win as well. And not necessarily, he has a coach. This is an unusual situation. Whoever wins will be good to me“he explained. .

Anyone have the original text so we can get a better and more accurate translation. This was awful.

Rafa has moved on since Toni was his coach so I doubt he would be able to give Felix any pointers. In the end, it all happens on the court no matter what the coaches say.

Earlier today, Felix Auger-Aliassime was also asked about Toni Nadal in his press conference:

“I don’t know if I need insight on how Rafa plays, to be honest. I think we all know what he does well (smiling). I don’t think Toni will tell me anything new about how Rafa plays. But we had the discussion; it was black and white from the first time we started working together we knew it was a possibility that eventually I would play Rafa when I’m working with Toni. And actually now he’s present here in this Grand Slam. But I think Toni will watch from a neutral place and enjoy the match. From my part it’s another match, another opportunity to try to play, you know, a good match and win, but of course it’s very difficult.”

“I will not be on either of the two benches out of respect for both players and because I’m still the director of the Academy, I’m still working for him and I’m Rafael’s uncle,” said Toni Nadal, according to Marca.

“I have a special affection, as is normal, for my nephew. But if he has to lose with someone, let it be with Félix. I don’t stop being Rafael’s uncle, I have been associated with him for many years. Hopefully in the future Félix will be number one in the world. For now, he has to improve.”

Wait, both Toni and Rafa have had gender changes?

Totally professional behaviour. No employer would like their previous employee to share professional secrets with the new employer; there are even legally binding mutual contracts in place for this thing.

Was this part of their deal/contract, i.e., he wouldn’t help him vs. Rafa? Otherwise it seems like a violation of every working relationship.
FAA would have to be a complete moron to hire Toni as a coach then expect Toni to treat a Rafa match-up like any other.

Obviously, FAA is not a moron, and he'd be laughing his ass off reading some of the nonsense that's posted here about how allegedly shifty and unloyal Toni is.

Whoever here believes that tennis is thicker than blood must be pretty confused about life, sports, everything.

Here's the issue. The lack of integrity is obvious. I suppose all ATP coaches have to have their permissions from the tennis organization to coach the top ATP competitors.

There is no secret to how to beat Nadal. Make the match as long as possible. Lose the first two sets at 7-6. Then the foot pain kicks in in the third set. But you will need a player with excellent physical fitness, which I believe FAA does.

Relax son, it was agreed before the contract was signed. Honouring contract is not lacking integrity.

That's an idea but FAA's got physical issues. On top of that, the Canadian sucks on the net. To beat Rafa, one should pick those crazy top spins before they fall down (on the clay court line).

Felix:
“We had the discussion, you know, it was black and white from the first time we started working together we knew it was a possibility that eventually I would play Rafa when I'm working with Toni,” this year’s Montpellier champion said of his match with the 13-time French Open winner. “And actually now he's present here in this Grand Slam. But I think Toni will watch from a neutral place and enjoy the match.”

Of course he's not going to coach FAA against Rafa, they've been working together for more than a decade and they're family. He's been in Rafa's box for numerous GS victories.

It looks like this has been made abundantly clear to FAA and he's accepted this decision.

He was in Rafa’s box along with the rest of the family for his second round match the other day.

The real question is whether he will give Nadal the inside secrets on the weaknesses of FAA so that his nephew has an easy win - that will help when he plays Djokovic in the next round.

Family ties or professional integrity?

And the answer is no he won’t. He doesn’t need to. The weaknesses in FAA’s game are there for Rafa’s team to see for themselves by watching his matches.

Toni is a vile *******. When Rafa was a child, Toni refused to buy him a bottle of water, which Rafa forgot to prepare and let his nephew thirst on the court. And there are many similar examples when he behaved shamefully.
