Huge news! I think the mental aspect (although Tio wasn’t specifically hired as a mental coach or anything) could also be a boost to FAA’s game that he desperately needs.

I have to imagine Rafa gave his blessing. It is strange that he is leaving the academy. It is sad on some level for sure, I would rather hear that he would start traveling with Rafa again, even though Moya has been an unbelievable coach in his own right.

Interesting news.
There were some photos of Felix standing with Toni when FAA went to the Rafa Academy to train in December. But I never in a million years thought this would evolve into a coaching partnership. Toni's English is far from fluent (and he also doesn't speak French), and FAA speaks neither Spanish or Catalán. How are they going to communicate effectively.... seriously?

I regard Toni as absolutely the GOAT coach, so he must see something in Felix many others don't see. Fixing Felix's mentality is going to be a tall order for Toni.

more top spin to the backhand doesn't require fluent English

It is a business decision to promote the so called "academy", and has nothing to do with FAA or his chances. He has been on the rise and already knocking on the door of the big stage. It is meant for him to win some stuff going forward, so Tio will capitalise on that inevitability. Smart move, but ultimately only showing a business acumen.

I thought he already looked a different player after a few sessions at the RN Academy. He looked very focused in his match against Shapovalov at the AO. This could be the best decision he's taken in his professional life.

By the way, FAA's first language is French. Catalan has many similarities with French.
