"Rafael's defeat against Daniil Medvedev in Saturday's semifinals at the Nitto ATP Finals was painful, given the magnitude and importance of the tournament and, above all, because a great opportunity slipped away: a cup that he has never been able to lift, having deployed all week tennis of the highest level," Toni said.

"This is how, as has happened on other occasions, Rafael could not finish a magnificent season with the finishing touch that would mean crowning himself master of masters," said Toni.

Rafa and his whole entourage in denial about his choking.

Having his YES men tapping him on the back when he can't hold his nerves isn't going to do Rafa much good.

He will win RG for the next few years, but unless someone like Tsitsipas takes out for him Novak and the rest of nextgen, he's definitely finished winning slams on hard as his nerves won't allow him.

Neither the Med or the Thiem matches were particularly bad chokes.

The rivals played well and got a bit lucky, and Nadal got slightly tight, that's all.

It's happened before and will happen again. Some people have unrealistic expectations that Nadal is supposed to win every close match.

Do you think AO 2017, AO 2012 or Wimbledon 2018 were bad chokes too?

Master of Masters? He stole our phrase. Toni must have a TTW account. 8-B But Toni, he needs Paris and Miami also.
It's kind of a stock phrase in Spanish tennis journalism since the tournament was called Masters Cup.

Masters Cup, and by extension WTF, is usually rendered as "Copa de Maestros"

And the Masters Cup Champion is sometimes referred to as "Maestro de Maestros", which is what Toni said in the original interview:

There are a bunch of Toni blog posts stretching back to 2017 (in Spanish) in El Pais, although you'll hit a paywall pretty fast if you intend to read them all:

Wow, Federer fans sure do love Uncle Toni now, after 15 years of calling him a lying, conniving snake, whose words could never be trusted and he only called Federer GOAT to motivate his nephew to beat him.LOL!

Guess what Fed fans....you were right the first time (though I wouldn't call Toni a snake. More a motivational genius).

Toni says whatever he needs to say to keep Rafa motivated to keep winning. It's not that deep, and it's fairly obvious he will never be completely open about how he truly feels about many things in tennis

Such an odd thing to say.
They really believe that ATP Finals is masters of masters when not even all masters winners from the years qualify?
Toni surely doesn't need to give these quotes to the media. Can't these guys just rest?
